About this listen
Londyn McCormack didn't have a typical childhood. She ran away from home at 16, escaping parents more interested in drugs than their daughter. She doesn't have loving siblings or an adorable pet. Her only family is the five other runaway kids who shared her junkyard home.
Life pulled them all in separate directions, taking her to Boston. For a short time, she thought she'd found something permanent. But after a devastating divorce, she's running away again, this time to find a lost friend.
She's driving across the country in her convertible. As a teenager, the rusty car was her shelter. As an adult, it's her ride to freedom.
Except one flat tire derails her trip. Her life collides with Brooks Cohen. They walked away from the first crash. The second might destroy them both.

It was okay, but…
Short! A surprisingly simplistic story, but fine to listen to while doing chores etc.
One thing that bugged me is both narrators couldn’t decide how to pronounce the name Gemma and would sometimes give it a hard G at the beginning (like in “good”). But not always. I mean, if you’re going to pronounce it wrong at least be consistent!!

A well-written, cute story. Enjoyed the characters and the small town feel. Story pretty predictable, but fun. Looking forward to reading more of the series.

Really liked listening to the audiobook. Sped it up a lot - too slow at 1x. Voices very well done.

I've finally finished this series I started with book 2. This was not my favourite, but I plenty enjoyed it. Brooks and Londyn are instantly attracted to each other and a series of events keeps Londyn in town while on a road trip to escape her divorce. The audio is really good. What kept me hooked on this is Ms. Perry's writing. It's addictive.

A hot romance that is perfect for a roadtrip
I always love when Devney Perry starts a new series, I think I know what to expect, then she smashes all my expectations to smithereens in the very best ways possible.
Runaway Road is the story of Londyn McCormack, who at the age of sixteen ran away from a home without food, money or love but filled with addiction. She lands at a junk yard with 5 others, and shares her home (a '64 cherry red Cadillac) with her teenage boyfriend Kayson. Though we don't start the story there, Londyn's journey begins much later in life, after a failed marriage leaves her feeling ready to run away again, to tackle the open road across country from Boston to California in the very same car that was her teenage home. Londyn spent a lot of money having the car updated and restored, to pass on to Kayson so he can feel the joy she has, relieving the happiest days of her youth.
When a lapse in concentration leads her to end up hitting the guard rail along the side of the road, Londyn’s travel plans are put on hold whilst she’s towed to the closest town for repairs. On the plus side, the mechanic that comes to her rescue is the hot as sin Brooks Cohen, someone she is happy to spend a few nights getting to know in bed, but the plan is always to leave. After her plans are derailed further when her newly repaired car is vandalised just as she’s ready to go, the pair get closer and closer and the small town begins to feel like home.
As with all Devney’s books, the writing is outstanding, you are thrown into the action from the first word and obsessed by the end of the first page. She manages to weave a story that can relate to everyone in someway or another and endears you to all her characters without you realising, leaving you desperate for more and heartbroken once it’s over.
A phenomenal start to the new series, I can’t wait for Gemma’s story in Wild Highway, or any of the others that are still to come. Again, with every DP book, I can’t recommend this enough. Everyone needs to grab a copy and devour Runaway Road.
