Critic reviews

"A police procedural that delights the reader with a strong sense of place. Tartan Noir at its best." (Sarah Ward, author of In Bitter Chill)

The humour in the story

Loved the book and would loved to read more of the author’s work if there are more to read

Good story line

Good plot with many twists and turns but seemed to take a while to get going. When it did it was good but it did change direction quite a lot.

Good story

The narrator is dreadful, he overhams it, like he's in a 1920's thriller. Shame really because it's a good story.

Great

Really enjoyed this book. Multi faceted characters, interesting plot and a satisfying ending that makes you want to read the next one.

Sexist 90s detective

Honestly, genuinely can’t believe a modern woman wrote this story.
If you read this review before the story, just imagine the novel was written by a 60 year old bloke in the 90s and ignore the mentions of google, Facebook, and mobile phones. This will make it much more palatable!

A good listen

I liked the fact it looked at the problems from all angles. Interesting character development.

'hero is an idiot '

I know everyone has flaws, but, at his level of seniority and experience he can only be described as a twit! yes, the other officer was a really shitty piece of work (spow), so you could say there were, "extenuating circumstances" but going for the spow over his estranged wife whilst breaking rules over interviewing alone a young woman he had the hots for, and he's a DCI......???? good narration though.

Awful stereotype

The male detective in his late 30's needs his hard drive checked. obsessed with ogling women and teenagers. The caveat of "he's just a man after all" plays through it totally detracting from the story line. I gave up after he was swooning over the mortician and her eyebrows
