Summary

THE SUNDAY TIMES NO. 1 BESTSELLER

The British Royal Family believed that the dizzy success of the Sussex wedding, watched and celebrated around the world, was the beginning of a new era for the Windsors. Yet, within one tumultuous year, the dream became a nightmare. In the aftermath of the infamous Megxit split and the Oprah Winfrey interview, the Royal Family's fate seems persistently threatened.

The public remains puzzled. Meghan's success has alternatively won praise, bewildered and outraged. Confused by the Sussexes' slick publicity, few understand the real Meghan Markle. What lies ahead for Meghan? And what has happened to the family she married into? Can the Windsors restore their reputation?

With extensive research, expert sourcing and interviews from insiders who have never spoken before, Tom Bower, Britain's leading investigative biographer, unpicks the tangled web of courtroom drama, courtier politics and thwarted childhood dreams to uncover an astonishing story of love, betrayal, secrets and revenge.

Good book by a trusted author.

I rate this book because of the author's fact checking and investigative approach. Harry and Meghan are essentially an unremarkable pair creating unnecessary drama. They want to fashion an unchallenged narrative but the result is a trail of contradictions, disinformation and distrust. Like children they want to disrupt, throw tantrums and inflict wounds. Their behaviour is an established pattern as is their need to control and silence people. Reconciliation is a lost cause but by far their cruelest behaviour has been the Oprah interview whilst Prince Phillip was dying and the attempts to play the 96 year old Queen in her twilight years. A very good book and one that had to be written. It is not sycophantic, it is simply the facts.

Couldn't get through it!

Initially I was amused, the author goes out of his way to portray an ambitious, focused woman as despicable, while she's actually how women who succeed survive, no different to Anna Wintor. However this woman clearly went too far in bagging a Prince.
I had to return the book after chapter 7, it felt like listening to a Daily Mail article and I would never read a Daily Mail article, let alone for this long. The bias and repetitiveness made this a completely exhausting to listen to!

A thorough, well researched investigation

I was not that into royalty when Harry was erring on the global stage and Meghan was rampantly ambitious. It passed me by until the bad behaviour of the duo. It appalled me that anyone could be so disrespectful to the Queen. I hated the arrogance, a trait I despise in most people. This book is very thorough on the bits that appear. I feel a lot was left out, perhaps to ensure Tom doesn't get a lawsuit he cannot defend. The more I listen, the more I realise that the only positive thing about Meghan is her tenacity. Surprising then that she could not put in the work for the Royal Family. She wanted stardom without effort. She is a classic narcissist, using and manipulating people until they were of no value to her. I can't tell you how appalled I am by her behaviour in Rwanda, using children to model fashion. She is tone deaf. No compassion, no empathy, just a veneer. Also abhorrent is her fabrication of her childhood. Thomas really did do everything for her. And now I get why Samantha has been so acrimonious. Honestly, she is a sorry excuse of a human being.

The whole Story

Well vocalised by Andrew Wincott, Great investigative compilation of truths and Meghan’s back story. Her path was laid out from an early age. Not so much about Harry , but we know his back story well. An insightful view into a life and aspirations of Britains (sorry americas) Duchess of Sussex. I’m left with no doubt in my mind that Meghan was climbing the greasy social pole from a young age and now in her current position has truly shot herself in the foot. I honestly think the UK is better off without them. Sorry America!

What a pair of spoilt brats.

Utterly dreadful behaviour from both Meghan and Harry. America is welcome to them. The Diana obsession is crazy.

Explosive! but not unexpected.

Not my normal read, but a page turner which I finished in 24hrs. I clocked MM at the beginning and this only confirmed and strengthened my thoughts about Her, not pretty to put it politely and as for Harry, well any sympathy I had toward Him has diminished greatly. I will endeavour to read more from Tom Bower, God Save the Queen!. 👊

Dreadful Book

Could have been written by any of the tabloid papers. The fact that we still have authors writing this stuff in this era is sad ! For years we have endured other authors pathologising Diana , who are not qualified to do so , with the intention of discrediting her ! Now we have this gravy train aimed at this couple , with some of the sources used e.g her family , questionable to say the least. ! I sincerely hope audible return my credit when I return this book. Couldn’t abide it after several chapters. Same old tiresome , already well worn out by the British tabloid ! Yawn !

Excellent Book

This is a second review, 1st I hadn't finished it. Now I've finished the book. This was well read, the narrative put a lot of expression into it.
The contents knowing Tom Bower only gives information what can be backed up was showing the truth of a couple who have so much bitterness and anger in their lives that they don't mind who they upset as long as they can draw money in.. Lies they tell are seen as" Their truths ", Which to me is saying ,anyone can have their truth which has to be excepted by all end of story. Even though in reality they are lies...How .weared is that .Well written enjoyed it all and will read more by this author

Don't waste your money.

Nothing new here. Not even a nugget or two. Huge omissions regarding DR. Outright untruths about SM... PW... the D o C....and the RF and the Palace. Tom Bower is making money for old rope. I only wanted to give stars for the narrator who does an excellent job.

well written and read.

I thought this was well written and read. at the beginning I was a supporter of Megan at the end I saw her for what she is a money grabbing selfish lady who will do anything and use anyone to get what she wants. it must be heartbreaking to lose your bother son and grandson this way . i look at photos if Harry over his life and since his relationship with madam he no longer smiles or seems to have any fun. poor harry.

Well done!

Tom Bower has done an AMAZING job starting at the beginning of Meghan’s life and building, one block at a time, so that you see how Harry and Meghan have wound up where they are. The details are amazing. A great read!

As I thought…

Proof that Markle is a self-serving cow (the polite c-word). Well written and insightful. I’d hope that one day, Harry would see her for who she is.

I Believe

I normally don’t believe “gossip” and/or “tall tales”, but I believe this one. I can’t image anyone who reads this, not believing the story. It’s time to stop seeing Prince Harry as only the son of our beloved Diana. He is a damaged adult man who aligned himself with a gaslighting women. End of story.

Pulls back the curtain to reveal the truth about a self-important D-level actress

Good book. It’s truly a shame that MM did not use the opportunity to do selfless charitable work like Diana did. Comparing herself to Princess Di is such an insult to the late Princess. In doing so MM reveals just how delusional she really is. The monarchy is much better off without those two over-indulged and insufferable brats. Unfortunately now we’re stuck with them.

Great book

If you are interested in the royal family, particularly the younger members- I highly recommend. I liked Harry and Meghan at first but I knew something was off after their wedding. This book confirmed much of what I assumed but also had a ton of new info and crazy stories… not flattering. They are not who they pretend to be. I feel for the queen but the Royal family will be fine. Not so sure about the Sussexes.

So Much More Than I Even Imagined!I

I don't remember when I have enjoyed a book so much. Unfortunately, Thomas Markle is slayed time after time by his daughter.
The author, having interviewed over 80 people, is what makes this so compelling! So many people can not randomly be telling the same stories and memories. I'm going to be looking at the author's other books now.
I am so glad I got this on Audible! The narrator is fantastic! It baffles me how he captures Meghan's voice when speaking (or her inner dialogue!) So pretentious! It seems she plans out much of what she says or does, while other things seem to randomly fall in her lap. I never, aside from Diana and Charles wedding, have had much interest in the Royal Family, but that has changed!
I'll buy any follow up to this book. It really is that good!

The Beautiful Outsider

I did not enjoy this book! It is very well written, the narrative is excellent, but for me is a very sad story. Sorry for The Queen, and also sorry for Harry, who in the future away from his roots and origen, will find himself not belonging anywhere…..
