Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
A personal account of the life and character of Britain's longest-reigning monarch.
This intimate, personal biography of Queen Elizabeth II tells the story of her remarkable life, reign and times, from a perspective unlike any other. Gyles Brandreth writes the Queen's tale candidly with grace and sensitivity from the view of someone who met her, talked with her and kept a record of those conversations. Brandreth knew the Queen's husband well and knows the new King and Queen Consort.
Told with authority, a refreshing dose of humour and moving honesty from a totally unique viewpoint, Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait is the must-have biography of the longest-serving monarch in English history, of a woman who represented not only her people but stood as an emblem of fortitude and resilience worldwide throughout her long life. Elizabeth II—what was she really like? What made her the person she was?

Most refreshing. Not a derogatory word
I really enjoyed listening to this book because it was read by the author who could put the right feeling and emphasis on the words he read making it more real and believable. I liked that there was no nastiness. No getting at the Queen
I rated it highly as I appreciate what the Queen has done for this country and her faith in God that has seen her through many difficult times. It was not a book of blame or condemnation. A very pleasant experience

Sycophantic drivel.
Clearly the author wants to remain a so called friend to the royal family. Revised history in some parts. I liked our late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and am a royalist but found this book tedious. I certainly won't re visit this book.

Great narration and insight very enjoyable
I really enjoyed listening to Gyles narrating this book - was very interesting to see all the parallels between different generations. Bit too many Harry and Megan digs for my liking referencing the high vol of staff who quit their team - yet no referencing the comparison elsewhere in the book when Prince Phillips staff did the same in the early years, instead rationalising it as something completely different

Not so much about the Queen
Most of the history in the book has already been written about at length , including about family members , in the authors other books or by other authors. It’s common practice to focus on the positive when anyone passes , this though I felt , elevated the Queen to saint like status , when all involved are human. Some anecdotes and stories but couldn’t say it enlightened me as to the character etc .

Warm and reassuring
I have loved this book. It is a wonderful, cheerful account of the life of an amazing woman; very comforting in the wake of her death. It does not shy away from the difficult times but gives a balanced account of her reign. I fully recommend it during the gloom of these challenging times.

Love the writing style!
I enjoyed listening to this. The style is perfect. And the author actually met both the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, which made his account of events more reliable. 5 stars.
