Summary

Annoying flashbacks
I wanted to like this book as much as Alex’s other books but struggled. There was too many ‘flashbacks’ and I found them extremely annoying and kept trying to jump the audio past them. I liked the idea of a MC going back to save humanity and understand we need some backstory about the character, but there must have been a better way to do it that wasn’t so annoying.
The number of flashbacks reduced towards to end of the book, so I found it better.
I will buy the sequel when it comes out as liked his other books and the ideas in this one, with hopefully the reduced number of “flashbacks” continuing into the next book.

Some really cool elements, but some big problems
As other reviews have noted, the MC spends a lot of time in his own head. Particularly at the start where he whines a lot this is not great to read. I also feel like the particular complaint takes away from the premise: he cant destroy planets on a whim, but thats not the real power behind time travel, tbh its a bit weird that its an option in the first place, its not really very time travel adjacent.
It is fun to see the MC plan things out, abusing critical moments in the timeline is a big part of the appeal of time travel stories, and he exploits his future knowledge better than many protagonists.
The next big complaint is the flashbacks. I honestly just started skipping these and as a result found the story a lot more streamlined. I dislike flashbacks in general and having so many of them really disrupts the flow.
Finally, the romance… its weird, and the word the author was looking for was ‘groomer’, not ‘breaker’. He spends a lot of time agonising over their age difference, shows some awareness of the ethical implications, then ignores them anyway. Its creepy, but its also cringey in the way the protagonist acts like a 12 year old around this 18 year old when he is actually 500 years old, and apparently has had numerous romantic relationships in the past. I really wish that the first ‘ally’ the MC found was a fat bloke named Larry, but of course it had to be a beautiful 18 year old woman.

A really good story!
I thought it was well read and good world building with in my view the flashbacks being useful to further build the world! Looking forward to the next one!

This has to be the worst book by Alex
I am a fan of alpha Physics, however this book is just sooooooo boring. Every other chapter is a walk down the memory lane it goes in unnecessary detail and where details are need it avoids all together.
tries to do too much and fails miserably!
