Summary

ALL KILLERS WANT TO MAKE THE FRONT PAGE...

It was supposed to be a simple case: a young man arrested for armed assault.

But it was just the beginning.

As Rodney Middleton awaits trial, Detective Jack Warr is warned by his mentor DCI Ridley that they have only scratched the surface of the man's crimes.

Then DCI Ridley is suddenly removed from his post. No one is to contact him - and no one will say why.

As Warr digs into Middleton's past, Ridley calls pleading for help, now accused of a murder he insists he didn't commit.

To catch a monster and exonerate his friend, Warr must weed out the lies. But what awaits Warr if he uncovers the truth?

Anger Issues

For me to really enjoy a book I have to like the main character.
In the previous books I've found Jack difficult, but I've not disliked him. I did in this book.
His aggression and know it all attitude weren't a good mix and the disfunction of his family life was off putting, in fact social services might need a call.
The case the team are working on is interesting and I feel Jacks issues took away from the plot.
Also the other case Jack is working on lost its lustre because of the same issues.
Both could be so much more and should have been what dominated the book.

Excellent book

Brilliant story and narrator. As well as having a crime scene we also delved into family life of the other detectives and Jack the main character. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Good, but not up to Lynda's usual best

Somehow I felt a bit let down by this book, it didn't keep me wanting to read it all the time, normally Lynda's books do that to me.
It was a good story but not her best, plus I feel that Annie Aldington would be better reading her books.

Excellent

Another exciting story by Lynda la Plante, weaving Jack Warr's efforts to solve two myterious murder investigations. I had to keep listening until it was finished. Nathanial Priestly made a good job of the narration too.

Don't change Narrators during Series

Changing Narrators in a book series is always difficult. struggled with this book. not as good as the first 3. Jack has changed slightly and appears to be more self absorbed.

Enjoyed

Found this one a harder listen than the other books had to keep rewinding as my mind started to wander. Felt like there was more fluff when I wanted to hear more about the events and the ending was really abrupt. Narration was fantastic. The home story was pointless and irritating. Jack was also less likeable in this book. Could have been better but author is so expert it was overall good.

Not as good as the rest of the series.

I found the narration to be very good. I have listened to the previous D.C. Warr audibles and enjoyed them but this one was not as interesting for me. It was not intriguing or gripping and did not keep me on the 'edge of my seat', wondering what may happen next. The twists and turns seemed absent as it just plodded along. To be fair I am biased as I totally love the Jane Tennison series which are excellent so Jack Warr has a lot to live up to!

Worse La Plant book ever

Awful narration. Could not connect with characters or plot. Turned off by narrator. I have never returned a book of hers before.

Loved it!

Oh yes, another excellent Lynda LaPlante thriller/police procedural, the way only she can write them. Excellent narrator as well!
