About this listen
The year is 2066, and the world is oblivious to the threat it faces.
The fate of humanity lies on the shoulders of Burt Radcliffe, the new head of NASA's Near Earth Object program. He's been rushing the completion of DefenseNet, a ring of satellites that are both part of an early-warning system, as well as the means to eliminate incoming threats.
Yet Burt knows that despite the world's best efforts, nothing can be done about the alert he's just received. Coming out of deep space is a danger that's been approaching since the dawn of time. A black hole. An unstoppable threat that promises death for all in its wake.
Dave Holmes was a modern-day Einstein. As the original architect of DefenseNet, he'd had visions of this Primordial Threat before he disappeared, yet he'd left behind no details on how the problem might be solved. Can Holmes be found, and if so, will his solution even work?
The world has less than a year to find out.

Pure Joyful Escapism
I have to admit was reluctant to listen to this audiobook due to it's scathing reviews but I'm so glad that I ignored them. I enjoyed it immensely and actually found that the voice actor was very accomplished. After all, good narration involves being able to do easily identify the characters which he executed with great expertise. The story won't change your life but it was hugely entertaining and met expectations.

Narration not good
Good story spoiled by narrator’s attempts at female and British voices. Would have been better to read it as straightforward story without the attempts at “acting”

a basic sci-fi story
I really wanted to like this story, I found it as it was hailed as the next Arthur C Clark, but unfortunately it's very very far from a claim like that.
good premise for a story but it felt like the author really wanted to show off his knowledge of IT and physics based science a bit too try hard. rather then just tell a story about an interesting sci-fi event your left listening to explanations of tech or science with other characters cheering on the knowledge imparted by certain characters.
also the world governments and population aspects are written in a very naive view, if only we lived in such a place! I'm more likely to believe the tech David comes up with rather than the geopolitical situation written in this book.
I ended up skipping a lot of the story just to get to the end.

desperately searching for a screenplay.
The plot seemed to follow a tried and tested Hollywood disaster movie scenario with some very clichéd characters thrown into the mix for good measure. I stuck with the book in the hope of a subtle twist which unfortunately didn't come. Other reviews had suggested that this was written from a scientific perspective, but I found it pretty rudimentary and flawed in a lot of places and I am no astrophysicist.

Bit Far Fetched.....
... but fun. It's a very typical SiFi story but more inclined to get a "B" rating as a 1950's film.
Whilst not great, it did still hold my attention.... and the ending opens up to a new book, which has better possibilities.
