What if ...?

Everyone has been faced with the question "what if...?" In this gorgeous fantasy book, Jennifer L. Hart gets to the heart of the matter. The story is not only convincing through its humour and fantasy, but also shows an unexpected depth of self-criticism and self-acceptance. With her charming writing style, the author quickly drew me into the story.

Joey Whitmore knows the day that changed her life. When the charismatic fae prince Robin offers her a chance to change her past, the temptation is great - but everything has it's price.
The tension was build-up very fast and I was very curious which decisions Joey will make and what effects they'll have.
Even if the romance is less important, the reader finds a great tension between Robin and Joey. Personally, I liked the interpersonal relationships a lot - friendships and enmities or family ties - Jennifer L. Hart has succeeded in building a realistic picture. I loved the little wisdoms at the beginning of every chapter.
Overall, a very well written book that made me laugh and made think about my own past - I can't wait for the sequel.
"The Fae Side of Forty" is the second part of this series and has already been published. I hope the audio book will follow soon.
The narrator Jacqueline Rendell is an excellent cast. Her interpretation of the individual characters is very successful.

Whats not to Love about this book

'Over The Faery Hill' Book 1 of the  Magical Midlife Misadventures
Author Jennifer L. Hart
Narrator Jacqueline Rendell
Length 8 hours 3 mins

Jennifer thank you for giving me the opportunity to listen to and review your brilliant and funny book, I loved it and was so hooked I finished it in just 1 day.

This is the first book in Jennifer L, Hart's  new series, Magical Midlife Adventure's, and what a great start. I love her style of writing Jennifer has created a realistic story full of fantasy, magic, romance and laugh out loud humour. I also must add Jacquelline Rendell has done an amazing job, of narrating the book and bringing the characters to life, her voice is clear, pleasant and to listen to.

Joey Whitmore is a rather unlucky 42 year old, whose life has slowly fallen apart after an accident during her childhood. Joey meets a rather charming but naughty mischievous and slightly sly fairy prince that gives her the opportunity to go back in time and try and change her future, and that is where the fun, adventure, magic and laugh's begin.

Will Joey be successful on her journey and end up with everything she wants, will it be a  happy future and make her happy ? or has she opened a can of worms and made things worse? Well I am not going to spoil the story for you, by telling you if she has a happy ever after ending you will have to read/listen to the book to find out. However I will give you a hint that that there is a great twist at the end, which will leave you wanting more and to move straight on to the next book

The next book in the series is called the Fae Side Of Forty, it was released on 24/02/21. I am looking forward to listening to it when it becomes available on Audible. I can not wait to see what is next in store for Joey and the other characters in this magical story.

Narration could be better

The story is fine, but the narrator should learn that if they can't manage a Welsh accent, they should default to no accent rather than maintaining a cringeworthy attempt at the deformed lovechild of bad Irish and bad Scottish accent.... {SHUDDER!}

It really detracts from he listenability of the audiobook.

Good Story

I enjoyed this book, it's short and sweet and I love the moralistic elements of it; it certainly makes you think about your lot and even appreciate it more. That being said, I shan't be purchasing book 2 because despite making it thorough book 1, I found it difficult getting past the narration, I almost switched off a number of times. In general, JR narrates pretty well but her accents are...well, truly terrible. She made Robins character sound like he'd had an accident which affected his speech. And Welsh? I really don't think so! perhaps an Irish stroke Scottish stroke American leprechaun , who's been at the ale since dawn is about right. Sorry if this sounds harsh but for someone who's used to listening to Jennifer Ikedas pristine voice acting for quite some time, I've become used to a more convincing narration. And hey, you can't really resent my critique too much; we pay good money for these books.

A delightful story of what might have been

Joey Whitmore lives a cursed life. At least that's what she'd have you believe. But when she's given the chance to turn back time, things don't go exactly like she thinks they will. Along the way she discovers someone she's lost, herself. Over the Faery Hill is a delightful story.

Great story

Joey is facing a midlife crisis and everything in her life is going wrong then a Fae turns up and he gives her the chance to change history . Liked this story it had me laughing in parts and the characters were great. Although I didn’t dislike the narrator she really should have researched the Welsh accent has the one she used was definitely not Welsh , at times she sounded Irish and others times Scottish 😬
