Summary

NOW A MAJOR FILM

From the New York Times best-selling author of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.

Named a Best Book of Summer by Cosmopolitan * InStyle *PopSugar * Buzzfeed * Bustle * Brit+Co * Parade

In her 20s, Emma Blair marries her high school sweetheart, Jesse. They build a life for themselves, far away from the expectations of their parents and the people of their hometown in Massachusetts. They travel the world together, living life to the fullest and seizing every opportunity for adventure. On their first wedding anniversary, Jesse is on a helicopter over the Pacific when it goes missing. Just like that, Jesse is gone forever.

Emma quits her job and moves home in an effort to put her life back together. Years later, now in her 30s, Emma runs into an old friend, Sam, and finds herself falling in love again. When Emma and Sam get engaged, it feels like Emma’s second chance at happiness. That is, until Jesse is found. He’s alive, and he’s been trying all these years to come home to her. With a husband and a fiancé, Emma has to now figure out who she is and what she wants while trying to protect the ones she loves. But who is her one true love? What does it mean to love truly?

Made me cry

This is definitely not the height of literature… nor is it as compelling and arresting as Seven Husbands. There are however beautiful moments, intimacy, heart break and a taste of what it’s like to feel in love through the pages of a book and the eyes of characters. As the title of the review says, it made me cry, and even though I know it’s not perfect, it made me feel and I enjoyed it!

Great read

Narration was great; easy to listen to.
Story was strong! But personally the timeframe was so quick from the time Jesse returns to her making the decision between Sam and Jesse. It was around a week (and she does tings with them 👀). I just needed that timeframe to be longer; especially when she constantly refers to both as the loves of her life. Overall worth a read!

I really didn't love this

I loved the authors previous books but this one wasn't for me. I just didn't care enough about the characters or what was happening

Overly sentimental and makes you cringe.

I usually love this author but this book is overly sentimental and talks continually of “my one true love” as if relationships are ridiculously easy once you are “ loved so truly and completely”. Lazy writing but good storyline which could have been so much better.

The worst book ever

I really struggled to finish it, I jumped over fragments of neverending empty wording about "love of my life" and I made it to the end with a sordid feeling: how this writing became a book?
Who said:"this is art, we publish it"???
I don't even know what is all about. Love story? SF? WHO in god's name says any longer:"you are THE LOVE OF MY LIFE"??
Yak... revolting... What's this Emma, a magic female, that not one but two perfect guys fight over her, loving her so totally, so "for life" that I wanted to puke???
And how the writer copied the Tom Hanks character so shamelessly and tried to squeeze tears and to fake pain?
It's so inaccurate, so false this manuscript that it literally makes me sick. I AM SORRY I BOUGH IT FROM AUDIO! I couldn't return it because I've returned too many, so I was stuck with it. First time when Julia Whelan doesn't save a stupid script, but BECOMES HERSELF PATHETIC while reading it.
FOR SHAME 😏. From Finland, Maria Magdalena Biela

Wonderful book

I love Taylor's novels, and this may well be my favourite so far. A powerful and emotional journey, and perfect conclusion. Highly recommended.

Really disappointing

I really enjoyed Daisy Jones and thought the premise of this seemed interesting but it was really hard to get through.

The first half was alright, fairly interesting and moved along but then it became monotonous, trite and cringeworthy.

Lovely story

Enjoyed it as I have with all of TJR books but nothing to write home about. Just warm and lovely, perfect holiday read.
