Summary

He isn't supposed to even talk to a human, much less fall in love with one...

Sixteen-year-old Ryann Carroll has just run into the guy who saved her life 10 years ago. You might think she'd be happy to see him again. Not exactly. She's a bit underdressed (as in skinny-dipping) and he's not supposed to exist.

After her father's affair, all Ryann wants is to escape the family implosion fallout and find a little peace. She also wouldn't mind a first date that didn't suck, but she's determined not to end up like her mom: vulnerable, betrayed, destroyed. Ryann's recently moved back to her childhood home in rural Mississippi, the same place where 10 years earlier she became lost in the woods overnight and nearly died.

She's still irresistibly drawn to those woods. There she encounters the boy who kept her from freezing to death that long ago winter night and was nowhere to be seen when rescuers arrived. He's still mysterious, but now all grown-up and gorgeous, too. And the more she's with him, the greater the threat he poses to Ryann's strict policy - never want someone more than he wants you.

Seventeen-year-old Lad knows the law of his people all too well: Don't get careless and don't get caught.

It's allowed his race to live undetected in this world for thousands of years, mentioned only in flawed and fading folklore...Lad's never been able to forget about Ryann since that night 10 years ago. When he sees her again, his fascination re-ignites and becomes a growing desire that tempts him to break all the rules. He's not even supposed to talk to a human, much less fall in love with one.

And the timing is atrocious. The Assemblage is coming, the rift between the Light and Dark is widening, and mysterious celebrity fan pods are becoming more and more widespread and influential. Lad may have to trade his own chance at happiness to keep the humans, especially Ryann, blissfully unaware and safe.

A delightful tale.

Ryann Caroll and her mother move in with grandmother in Mississippi after her parents separate. Out in the woods near a lake she runs into the boy who saved her life 10 years ago by stopping her from freezing to death when she got lost in the woods.
She drawn to the handsome 17 year old called Lad but refuses to date him after her parents disastrous relationship put her off. But there's something about him she can't resist.
But Lad has secrets and he shouldn't talk to her let alone date her.
I loved the book. The narration was perfect. I thought she did a great job of the male voices and all the southern characters. The story kept me gripped and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I cant wait to listen to book 2 or read it. I received a free copy of this audio book from the author but the opinions expressed in this review are my own. Listen to it and you'll thank me.

The next books gonna get really good!

I received a free audio copy of this book directly from the author for an honest review.

I totally love this world, I think this is very much the introduction to a much larger plot to follow in the next books. For now it’s mostly about introducing characters and the relationship between Ryann and Lad. Also to the flirtation of Nox. It’s full of description of the characters who seem much older and mature than they are which appeals to me but still continue to develop throughout. The surrounding world is beautiful especially Altum.

Dang cliffhanger! I really need the next book to read!! It’s about to get really good!

Surprisingly Good

I’ll be honest, I was a little skeptical at first when I read the preview and noticed the main character was 16 years old but I decided to give it a chance. I am so glad that I did. This book had me hooked until the end. Amy Patrick does an amazing job of bringing the forest to life with fabulous details that jump off the page. Ryann is such a headstrong girl dealing with her broken family and trying to use logic to solve problems. She feels much older than 16 and you forget her age as the book moves on. Amy Deluca does an amazing job bringing these characters to life as she reads. I cannot wait for the next book! 💕

Wonderful

Ryann is a wonderful, hilariously sassy heroine who leads this thoroughly entertaining story. This intriguing story is beautifully written with several mysterious twists and is very emotional in places. The narrator is brilliant and brings the characters to life with distinctive voices for each person.

Still A Better Love Story Than Twilight

I'll admit, when I first started reading, I got big Twilight vibes. Backwoods southern town? Check. Divorced parents? Check. Supernatural love interest? Checkkkk. But even though I felt the set up was cheesy and kind of goofy, I really appreciated how Ryan was actually given a believable and sustainable personality (except for when Nox comes into play, but I'll forgive that because he's ✨charming✨).

At first, I didn't like how fast Ryan and Lad were rushing into their relationship, but when I was 16 I had NO relationship, so I can't be the best judge on these things. I also appreciate how real life consequences were considered if they took things too far. I really like that they were forced to take everything kinda slow and figure out if they were really willing to sacrifice everything for each other.

Deluca's performance was entirely amazing. Each character had their own voice and personality and I don't think I would have enjoyed this story half as much without her. I think sometimes I hit that play button just to hear her talk to me.

Overall, I really liked this! It was a bit predictable, and sometimes I didn't like something specific, but I enjoyed the ride.

Soo good!

I really really enjoyed this story. This is my kind of genre. I love a story where someone seemingly normal learns there is a not so normal world out there and this one does not disappoint. It has a great love triangle and a type of fantasy creature that is different than you expect. It’s just everything you could want in a good easy to consume story.

The narrator (who I believe is also the author) is fantastic! I’m impressed.

I was given a free review copy of this book per my request and in exchange for my honest review.

good good

I've read this series before thru ebook and decided to give the audio version a shot (since when I originally read it, it only had 3 books and now there's 10ish)
the story line is cute, a YA paranormal. it starts that Ryann starts a relationship with Lad-- who is not exactly human. Lad saved her ten years previous and both parties have never forgotten each other. their relationship built through the story and by the end -- it ends on a cliffhanger! there's a minor love triangle and by book 2....it gets better. trust me!

the narrator sounds perfect for the book. she's able to get the southern charm and the teen voice of Ryann to a T.

Loved it!

It was such a good story. Characters are like able and even though there wasn’t a lot of craziness or drama it still kept me engaged. I love that there is elves and what to know more about them. Also the narrator is great!

Twilight meets Heart of Dixie

Hidden Deep is your typical YA romance. Forbidden love, check. Love triangle, check. Instant love with no concern for any real relationship issues such as careers, money, or possible children, check. Mysterious supernatural element, check.

Overall this was an enjoyable story of you can shut off your brain and fall into the southern charm and mystery of Deep River Georgia.

A Very Deep Feeling YA Love Story

I found this Audible book a very good YA Love story. It was better then the Twilght Series that I have watched on CD. This story real pulls the heart strings in parts and especially at the end. Narrator does a Wounderful job with the characters voices and the Entire Storyline of this book.
