Summary
Caspian Drake knows what it takes to get ahead in modern-day shifter society. He is an Earl, after all, and known for his wit, style, and ability to charm the pants off of anyone he chooses. Getting his best friend Brandr, the Prince of the Dragons, in and out of trouble is only one of his many talents. When a horrible attack shakes Cas’s world, he’s forced to pair up with Saphir Vepkhia, the esteemed tiger shifter and former Captain of the Royal Guard.
Upon retirement, Saphir is granted the title of Baron Archer and, much to his dismay, becomes part of royal society. Years later, when he’s summoned to the palace, the last thing Saphir expects is for the king to request a favor that ties him to the scoundrel, Caspian Drake. Despite his misgivings, Saphir accepts the assignment, knowing it will give him the access he needs to infiltrate the wealthy and powerful while trying not to get outfoxed by the exasperating Earl.
Forced into a fake relationship by an outdated matchmaking ritual, Cas and Saphir each face the upcoming season with their own agenda. The secrets pile up as the two mates navigate the complexities of a modern world that plays by historic rules. But the closer they get to the truth, the greater the danger–and their attraction to each other–grows. With their lives on the line and the very foundations of their society at risk, Cas and Saphir must unravel the mystery, even if it means creating a scandal more notorious than their newfound love.

Loved it!
I was hesitating to give this book a 3,75/5 but it was so GOOD that it largely deserves a full 4⭐
What consolidated this decision was the moment these two idiots were shouting their love to each other while surrounded and fighting for their lives!
I loved everything about this book: the story, the romance, the characters... The narrator was also at his A-game and I cannot wait for the next book!

This is the best book I have listened to in a very long time. There are so few books that include romance and have a really exciting action plot. The narration was amazing . The narrator gave each character the voice and inflection to make this nearly cinematic. I thought I liked some of the books I've read over the past year, but this blows them away.

What a great way to break a slump
I have been disappointed in the books I recently selected to listen to and was concerned about this choice. I love both Macy Blake and Charlie Cochet. They did not disappoint. From the Match to end I was captivated. Saphir and Cas are a perfect match for each other. The suspense and romance was equal parts entertaining. I love the supporting characters as well. I look forward to continuing this series.
Of course the wonderful Gary Furlong did an excellent job bringing this story to life.

Regency shifter Royalty in a modern world
Gary Furlong is in my top 5 favorite narrators. The voices, pacing and emotions are portrayed very well.
The story is shifter royalty with Regency England living but in a contemporary world. My brain stumbled a bit as I kept suttering on the use of tehcnology and modern cars with barons and kings and cravats. Based on previous works from these authors I was expecting a higher level of "suspend belief and reality" and was pleasantly surprised with the low levels of this. I enjoyed the story and am looking forward to the next book and continuing mystery story arc.
