Justis Fearsson is a private investigator on the trail of a serial killer in Phoenix, Arizona. Justis is also a weremyste - a person with a wizard’s gifts and the ability to see into the paranormal world. Unfortunately, weremystes also tend to go crazy on the full moon - which is why Justis is no longer a cop. Hard to explain those absences as anything but mental breakdown. But now an old case from his police detective days has come back to haunt him, literally, as a serial killer known as the Blind Angel strikes again.
Summary
#1 New York Times bestselling author Patricia Briggs’s Mercy Thompson series has been hailed as “one of the best” (Fiction Vixen Book Reviews). Now Mercy must deal with an unwanted guest—one that brings a threat unlike anything she’s ever known.
An unexpected phone call heralds a new challenge for Mercy. Her mate Adam’s ex-wife is in trouble, on the run from a stalker. Adam isn’t the kind of man to turn away a person in need—and Mercy knows it. But with Christy holed up in Adam’s house, Mercy can’t shake the feeling that something about the situation isn’t right.
Soon her suspicions are confirmed when she learns that Christy has the furthest thing from good intentions. She wants Adam back, and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to get him, including turning Adam’s pack against Mercy.
Mercy isn’t about to step down without a fight, but there’s a more dangerous threat circling. Christy’s stalker is more than a bad man—in fact, he may not be human at all. As the bodies start piling up, Mercy must put her personal troubles aside to face a creature with the power to tear her whole world apart.

Mercy back on Audible.co.uk and doesnt disappoint
No idea why Audible UK has books 1 to 3 then misses 4-7 before resuming with book 8 but its really annoying, especially as audio versions read by Lorelei King do exist! just not for UK download.
This book is part of a sequence and will make a lot less sense if you haven't read/heard the previous ones so dont start here or jump here from book 3 as you will have no idea whats going on with Cayote, the walking stick, whats happened to the Fae etc.
Now to the story. If you have read previous books you should know what to expect and it follows the same basic formula with a few twists
Adam's ex wife appears in this book and I didn't really find her character believable, just too manipulative and scheming and I cant believe the others would welcome her like they appear to. Fortunately she is only a means to get the real baddie into the tri-cities and the real action with Mercy and the Wolves attempting to save the world from a psychotic paranormal killer is as gripping as always.
Lorelei does an excellent job reading the story and I cant imagine anyone else doing the voices, In particular Mercy's and Adam's are just perfect. Just one small annoyance when she has problems with the Canary islands pronunciations but its only one page.
A few new characters are introduced to the story which keeps things fresh, I especially liked Gary Laughing Dog who I hope we see more of in future books.
Shame its not a bit longer but its well worth a credit.

Not my favourite
Not my favourite book of the series so far. The reason was Christy I couldn’t stand that woman and am hoping she doesn’t move to be more local as she is threatening to do further away would be good. Saying that without her there wouldn’t have been a book and as I really enjoyed it I shouldn’t really complain.

Good but not great
My least favourite out of all the Mercy Thompson books. There was just too much annoying Christie and not enough of the characters we love. It was based around the dynamics of a troublesome ex interfering in the relationship between Adam and Mercy which is not only frustrating but annoying; and considering Christie's lack of redeeming qualities it's hard to believe anyone would side with her making those who do very difficult to like or respect.
I do think though this book sets up some potential interesting future storylines for Tad, The grey lords and the Stefan/Wuulfe dynamic and also Honey.
I would prefer to get rid of Christie from future books and Arielle needs to be put in her place she's just too antagonistic, and doesn't seem to have the packs best interest at heart, she has her own personal agenda which conflicts with it. Neither are very likeable or respectful people. I don't know if I believe Adams second would stay with Arielle if she's just so much drama for nothing, all the time he seems to be too chilled a personality for it.

Great story, terrible performance
What would have made Night Broken better?
Replace the narrator and the whole experience might be instantly better.
What didn’t you like about Lorelei King’s performance?
It was the mispronunciations that made it unbearable in the end, along with her failure to understand the required emphasis in a sentence and finally compounded by my disagreeing strongly with her representation of the first-person narrator.
The Mercy series has always thrived with supernatural elements grounded engagingly in fact, mixed with romance and spiced with the charm of the relationships between the characters. Add a practical, realistic heroine and you've got a winner.
Unfortunately, the grating mispronunciations wreck the groundings of fact beneath the supernatural element (try listening to Tenerife pronounced 'Tena-Reef-EY' 7 times in a couple of minutes), whilst the narrator's total failure to understand the jokes means that most of them fall flat (until you think about them later, and realize what was actually being said).
For her representation of Mercy, I can imagine this may be my personal preference, but I find it hard to believe in the usually practical and earthy Mercy Thompson when her voice is portrayed as petty and wheedling.
Thus robbed of three elements which make the Mercy Thompson series so strong, I found myself listening in order 'to finish' rather than enjoying it by about the halfway point.... and have now given up. I'll be finishing the paperback instead.
You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The actual story is pretty engaging. Whilst Mercy is far from 'at her best' in this novel, her flaws still make her delightfully real as a character. Not my favorite MT novel so far, but worth the read.

What happened to our characters?
This review is hard to write because I have really loved the past seven books of this series and the characters. However, this book felt like the author was letting someone else write it. Either way, something happened to our beloved characters, Mercy has become a doormat for almost everyone and Adam has become a jerk and completely blind to what his wife/mate is going through and what is happening in his own house.
A great example of this happens around the middle of the book, Mercy calls Adam's cell and his ex-Christy answers (while he's supposed to be at work). OK, completely inappropriate but OK it happens. However, the entire thing is made worse when Adam calls Mercy later and complains that she didn't ask Christy to get him. Mercy snaps at him about him being busy and then immediately apologizes to him because she remembers who the real enemy is. Does Adam follow suit and apologize as well? Or does he explain? Or does he even talk to her about it later? Nope.. Similar situations are continued throughout the entire story. It makes for a very awkward book and a book with characters that feel completely different then prior stories. Also, the fact that the entire pack is allowed to continue their disrespectful and cruel behavior towards Mercy, without her standing up for herself or Adam saying anything, is very odd based on what the author has told us about pack dynamics and behavior in the past (she has done this before also with no explanation).
I started and stopped this book repeatedly, and at times stopped for over a week because of frustration with the writing and characters. So I cannot recommend this book based on the story. If you are a fan of the series then its a important read, but just be warned its not pleasurable to get through. At this point I'm considering giving up on the entire series, as I no longer trust the author's writing.
Lorelei King is once again a fantastic narrator, her performance is flawless and each character is given its own personality through voice and her method.

Another Great Story in the Series!
The Mercy Thompson series is great and Patricia does a awesome job of creating a unique plot for each story. One of the things l love most about this series, is the characters. They have their own personalities and I've enjoyed how they've developed through the series.
Looking forward to the next book in the series but for now, I will be starting another series by Patricia..... I sure hope they are just as good as the Mercy Thompson series. :-)

Good Addition!!
This addition was entertaining and full of events.. my favourite part was the inclusion of the e-wife and what a &^%*& she is :) But for some reason it didn't feel as major as previous books. I felt it a bit like a side story rather than a major one (not saying it was, but it felt like it). But even though, it was a good one.
New characters get to be introduced here and am looking forward for their part in future books.
Lorelei King is one of my favourite narrators, and I love her work.

What about Lorelei King’s performance did you like?
Always good
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Almost
Any additional comments?
I listened to this book, and I was so engrossed in the story, before I knew it, there was only 3hrs left. Whew! Whoa! Wow!
I picked up the Mercy series after a little break from it. I think this story was one of the best I've read in it. No spoilers, but Mercy has her hands full (again) with the drama that Adam's ex brings to the pack, and an ancient fae looking for something that belongs to him. Action starts from the beginning, something I'm on big fan of, and rolls to the end.

Ms. Briggs Does it Again
I never want this Series to end. However, I know all good things must come to an end. Patricia Briggs is a master at creating a story that grabs you from the beginning and never lets go. She is so creative in her characters and her story plot. I know if you have read one of her books, you will keep coming back. At least I do. I also love the narrator, Lorelei King. She is so versatile in her characters' voices. She looses you in the story. You can see each individual character in your mind's eye. Love Ms. Briggs' writings and always look forward to the next one. The triangle between Mercy, Christy and the pack keeps the story exciting. Where do the loyalties lie? Good question.

Another fun addition
Patricia Briggs has added another fast moving fun addition to the Mercy Thompson series. The series are light but full of action. The characters are likable, and sometimes mischievous, but Mercy and her pack hold your attention and loyalty. This book reintroduces Coyote and you get additional insight into the character. This is a quick listen that has almost a short story feel and it will end all too soon. Lorelei King who has narrated the series does a great job.

A good crossover book-two series
4/5; 4 stars; A-
This book ties the Alpha and Omega series and the Mercy Thompson series together a bit tighter. Lorelei King is a great narrator and I've enjoyed her performance of all these books.
I enjoyed this latest installment of the Mercy Thompson series.
Things I really liked:
- a new and interesting type of preternatural foe to be dealt with
- the appearance of Alistair Beauclaire, who was a key character in Fair Game
- glimpses of Stefan and an evolving relationship amongst Mercy, Adam, the pack and himself.
- Joel and Lucia and their dog breeding/rescue/rehabilitation
- Coyote and Mercy's growing family ties.
- Tad's moment of glory...that was interesting and a bit surprising.
Things that bothered me:
-Adam's character surprised me in a bad way a couple of times with respect to his ex. (Its hard to believe such a strong character could be manipulated so easily)
- The book felt a little bit unfinished to me. The ending was rather abrupt and Beauclaire's role was too much like a teaser rather than a solid plot thread.
I am looking forward to continued developments in this world and to seeing where Briggs is going with respect to the Fae, The Marrock, and even the evil Marsilia....if ever a vampire needed killing she's a candidate!

Great addition to the series! <3 Adam & Mercy! :D
4.5-5 stars
This was a great addition to the Mercy Thompson series. As the description notes, Adam's ex, Christy, has a stalker that she needs saving from. Things turn more difficult when they find the stalker isn't human and is extremely dangerous. Christy comes in to Adam and Mercy's house and starts stomping all over Mercy in ways that makes it difficult for Mercy to fight back without looking petty. Somehow Christy has this whole "poor me" thing going that makes everyone blame Mercy for any thing wrong whether it's Mercy's fault or not. Things aren't good for Mercy when it comes to the whole Christy situation so she does what she can to help further the investigation quickly to hopefully get her out sooner.
Things in Mercy and Adam's lives are complicated further when a Fae comes to Mercy demanding the walking stick (a Fae artifact that is currently in the hands of Coyote, the native american "god"). Since the Fae is threatening terrible things, Mercy feels it's necessary to find Coyote ASAP to get the walking stick back. There are other things going on as well, as Mercy meets a half-brother she didn't know about, the pack gets a new member and there's trouble when Mercy is targeted by a federal agency that wants to study a captive werewolf and thinks she's a werewolf. Regardless of the multiple issues thrown at them, Mercy and Adam stick together and show just why they're such a good couple. Even with the issue of the "ex" being in the house Mercy never had to fear that Adam might be tempted by Christy. Adam didn't do real well at standing up to Christy but he never let her steal his love and attention from Mercy. The bad guy is a rough one and there's much drama as they prepare to take on the enemy and then get surprised at the last minute. Things don't work out exactly as planned but they do work out and everyone recovers in the aftermath. Adam and Mercy (of course) continue their HEA.
This was a great addition to the series. Adam and Mercy are great together and this book shows why that is. I hated Christy with the heat of a thousand suns...I just hope she doesn't actually move to town...Mercy doesn't deserve to have to deal with Christy that much. I do hope Mercy's brother (Gary) sticks around...he seems pretty cool and I can see good possibilities there. The action plot was frequent and kept things hopping while the personal stuff was hit on multiple fronts but all blended well in to a great story that kept me engaged until the end. Briggs is a great author and I love this series. I can't wait until the next book comes out. I'd recommend this book. 2 thumbs up. :D
