You need to tell everyone about great books
I really enjoyed this book. I wasn't sure about this book because I am more of a cozy mystery type of girl but the blurb sounded interesting and the author used one of my favourite narrator's, so I gave it a go. So glad I did because I was hooked from the first paragraph. I liked the way the author created a sense of suspense, where you thought you knew how the story was going to play out and then you are thrown a curve ball that you didn't see coming, even reading all the reviews for the book I was still surprised. The other reason I enjoyed this book was the great characters and I kept hoping for a happy ending for Henry, if it had been a book I think I might have had to skip to the end to see what happens. Definitely an author I wouldn't hesitate to listen to again.
After the death of her elderly neighbour and friend, Sonia knew getting to know and like who ever moved in was going to be hard, especially if it was one of her absent sons. She had no idea how hard. Her friends oldest son moves in and seems to be trying his hardest to keep his distance from everybody but as soon as Sonia's daughter Jessica discovers he has a four year old son, play dates ensues. Henry is so quiet and panics when ever his dad, Ray, is around and Sonia gets the feeling something isn't right in the house next door. Ray brushes it off as trauma over his wife's death and asks Sonia to be Henry's emergency contact for his nursery. She agrees but knowing how secretive Ray is she never expects to get called. The the unthinkable happens and Ray is in an accident and wakes up with no memory of his past or even his son. In the hopes that helping her neighbour remember his past, she hopes to find out why his son seems afraid of him and keep her daughter safe at the same time. But are some secrets meant to stay hidden?
As I said Amy Deuchler is one of my favourite narrator's and she doesn't disappoint. I loved the voices, especially the one she gave little Henry and I really got the sense he was a frightened little boy.
