Story
He’s smug, conceited...and hot as hell.... Becoming a partner at Caldwell and Holton will be the crowning achievement in my hard fought career. There’s just one problem. One arrogant, materialistic, flashy problem: Saint Caldwell. Unlike me, he’s never had to struggle for anything a day in his life...or so I think. But there’s more to the man than a showy Porsche and killer smile. I’ve spent my whole life working towards this moment, and I can’t let myself fall for his good looks, no matter how much I crave him.

I spent college worrying about responsibilities and earning my teaching degree, so before graduation and moving to Atlanta with my best friend, Ross, I figure I deserve a little fun. I’ve never been with an older man, but the guy at the bar grabs my attention and doesn’t let go…for multiple rounds, all night long. The next day, when Ross introduces me to his dad, the last thing I expect is for him to be my hookup from the night before, in town from Atlanta for his son’s graduation. The best thing would be to pretend it never happened, which is easier said than done.

They say love is like an explosion. But explosions haven't been so kind to Michael Wagner. Michael's given his life in service to the military. He had a plan - structure, discipline, focus. Thirty years in the Army before retirement. It only took one IED blast to change all of that, stealing his hearing and altering the course of his life forever. Joining some small-town support group? It's not going to change that. It's not going to give him back anything that he's lost...but maybe it's worth a shot, anyway.

Story
How did the worst date of his life turn in to the man of his dreams? Carter Winter’s not sure there’s anything worse than watching the man he’s on a date with slip his number to the bartender...except maybe finding out six months later that his bad date is his new boss who doesn't seem to remember Carter or that night. He wants to run, but he also knows he can’t pass up this opportunity. After all, it's been his dream to work at London Enterprise, and he can't turn it down now, even if it means working as a PA for Rhys London.
Summary
Nico’s the one for me. Too bad he’s my brother’s best friend...
Friends and brothers are off-limits. That’s always been the rule in our house. In a big family, it’s the only way to keep the peace. That doesn’t stop my heart from belonging to Nico, my older brother’s best friend.
I’ve been able to put aside my feelings for years, but now that I’m an intern at the law firm he owns, all those feelings are threatening to overflow.
He says he doesn’t do relationships, and that work is all he has time for, but when things heat up between us, I know I’ve found something worth fighting for. I’ll prove to Nico that I’m the guy for him. It’s time to throw out the old rules and make new ones of our own.

Nice story, terribly performance
The first thing I noticed was the horrible sound quality. It seems to be recorded with a 1980s portable cassette player. The abrupt clumsy correction in the recording, at the beginning, is the only one of its sort. Still there are many errors in verb tenses and plurals, which the narrator doesn't seem to notice himself. Also, the background is not always silent.
Over 3 quarters of the novel the whining softness of Jaimies voice started to get on my nerves, but I wanted to know how the story ended. So I continued. One more annoyance: the narrator did never hear sex talk. He talks like 'can you pass the salt'. The sex scenes are terrible passionless performed.
I think I'm going to read the ebook. The story seems to be my kind of fluffy. Only the compulsory fallout at the end was to stupid to describe.

Men at work? Love wins
So, I do love a good bit of best friends, brothers, and work drama, and the story di not disappoint, but I wasn't overly enamoured of the narrator, Tyler Darby, but that was down to the fact that his voice didn't immediately grab me the way some narrators do. He does relate the story very well though, so I was still able to enjoy the audiobook while I puttered around my flat.
Recommended if you like lawyers and big families. Plenty of sibling drama!

Slow-burn, forbidden love
An enjoyable start to a new series.
Jaime has harbored a crush on Nico, his brother's best friend for years.
Too bad there's a strict no brother's friends rule.
Now Jaime's all grown up, working in his brother Saint's and Nico's law firm.
Suddenly Nico is all too aware of Jaime.
Some mild angst due to the fact that Nico is the love 'em and leave 'em type which of course cones back to bite him.
Jaime was so sweet and absolutely adorable, if a bit immature at tines.
The narrator did a pretty good job, just seemed stilted at times.

Breaking the rule for love
Jamie's family has a rule...friends and brothers are off limits. Seems easy enough to follow until Jamie starts interning at his brother's law firm and being mentored by his brother's best friend and law partner. One Jamie has been crushing on for years. Uh oh. Hidden feelings, differing expectations. and desire result in a sweet, slow-burn romance. Are rules meant to be broken or will Nico and Jamie stay 'hands off'? This story has strong family loyalty and dynamics as well as a bit of angst and miscommunication. I did find the blow up between Jamie and Nico a little unfounded and juvenile on Jamie's part. I mean, did he expect a 33-year old to be pure, and he had seen Nico at the club, so he should have expected some history. But every book needs some drama to make it interesting, and all's well that ends well. I am enjoying the series so far and look forward to more. I really enjoy the dynamics of Saint and Jamie's family.
The narration was good with distinct voices for the different characters. I didn't hear the sound issues noted by some other reviewers, just one instance of a repeated sentence.
I received a free copy of this audiobook through Gay Romance Reviews and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

A great voice for a wonderful book...
I love any book that have Aiden Bates name on it, just because his writing style. In this case, what made me love this book is how easy is to follow the story and immerse in the plot laughing and suffering with the characters making it a really enjoyable reading. The premise is uncomplicated, well handled and followed up until the last consequences, with a balanced quote between angst and happiness and hot. Finally, at the end, all settled nicely and we even have a future book to expect (Saint's story). Of course all is better when you can put your headphones and immerse inside the story thanks to the profesional performance of Mr Darby. I loved how he made his voice attuned with the differents characters specially Jamie and Nico. A great reading!

I do love a brother’s best friend book, and Nico and Jamie are a joy to read/listen about.
Lots of passion, their chemistry is off the charts and their connection is very intense. I liked getting both POVs, both characters are very likeable.
There are a host of interesting side characters who I’m sure will get their own story as the series goes on.

Oh, the drama!
Jamie Caldwell wins an internship in his older brother's law firm and finds himself assigned to work with the other partner, his brother's best friend Nico Holton. As it happens, Jamie has been crushing on Nico for the last ten years, and must now manage that attraction to avoid it being discovered because his brother established a rule years ago forbidding relationships between his brothers and his friends. Ridiculous as it was, that rule kept them apart for the first third or so of the story, and once Saint sets aside the rule -- because after all, they're all grown men now! -- the couple get together. Until the next huge drama, brought on by another member of the firm who wanted more than a one-and-done hookup with Nico, whom Jamie knew was a playboy. What he didn't know was how much of a playboy Nico had been in the office, and the subsequent exposure of that fact, in the most embarrassing way possible, sends Jamie scuttling off with his pride in tatters. So even though he wants to be treated like a grownup with respect to choosing his lover, he can't manage to act like one when problems arise between them. I wasn't impressed by him. Nico should have told him about his hookups in the office, but his response should have been different. I so dislike stories that allow stupid miscommunication to be the cause of drama between characters. It's formulaic and uninteresting. The performance was just okay, not helping me like the story any better. But at least it didn't make me like it any less, either.

Let’s break some rules
I read this book before listening to it. Still love the story Of Jamie and Nico as much as the first time. Only thing that changed for me was how much better I liked Jamie in writing better. He comes off almost petulant at times in audio. I know he has high anxiety levels but he sometimes seemed whiney. Otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed hearing the interactions of the Caldwell family. Looking forward to listening to the rest of series.

Impressive
I feel like I know what to expect from an Aiden Bates story, but this exceeded my expectations. It was highly entertaining and kept up a good pace as far as the relationship went.
This was a new to me narrator, but I'm excited to hear more from him. There were a couple of issues along the way of repeats and editing malfunctions, but the different character voices and tenor more than made up for it.
This is one that will go on my re-listen list.

Believable characters in an angsty story
Nico works with Saint at his law firm. Saint has always had a rule from the time he, Nico and his brother Jaime were kids that friends and brothers are off limits when it comes to dating and relationships. That never stopped Jamie from having a major crush on Nico. When Jamie takes an internship at the law firm, he and Nico hit it off and start an intimate relationship. Jamie has been told that Nico has a past as a player, but it hasn't hit home exactly what that means until a drunk party goer makes some very unambiguous statements at a party where Nico, Jamie and a number of Nico's past flings are present. Jamie can't deal with the reality and runs. That covers about 2/3 of the story. How Saint works to bridge the gap between his brother and his best friend, how sins of omission can hurt just as much as sins of commission and how two men can find their way back to each other form the last 1/3 of the book. It is clear that none of this would have hit Jamie as hard if he and Nico had met as adults, but the fact that he's had a crush for a decade and a half and seen his dream come true makes the revelations about Nico's past all that harder to process. I found all these characters believable, liked and understood all of them and thought the author did an excellent job of making me feel the pain at the end. How we get to the happy ever after (actually, three happy events at the gathering to see if Jamie passes the bar) was well worth the wait. Also, it is clear how the second book is going to go as we end this one and I can't wait to read it and see those two characters come together. Tyler Darby did a great job with the narration. I liked his approach to both Nico's darker, gruff voice and Jamie's lighter more unsure one. I also enjoyed how Jamie's voice gets more assured at the end of the book as he comes to terms with Nico's past. The conversation where they clear the air is masterfully done.

Boyhood Fantasies Can Come True!
This is a great story and I really like Jamie and Nico together. They have incredible chemistry and it was a joy to watch their relationship evolve. Jamie has had feelings for Nico for many years but never acted on it because of his older brother's, Saint's, rule of no friends and brothers getting together. Some things just can't be ignored and it was great seeing the changes in Nico from his playboy ways. I thoroughly enjoyed the story from beginning to end and can't wait for Saint's story. The narrator was ok but there wwere a few glitches along the way and some of the character voices fell flat for me. I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy of this audio book.

Ok
The book was good , a little boring in the beginning, but it picked up along the way.
There were several mishaps with the audio.

Enjoyable!
This story reminded me of early days Aiden Bates, it was lovely to read. Tyler was a good narrator told the story well.
