About this listen

In these sparkling, funny, and heartwarming memories of more than 50 years in the entertainment business, Paul Nicholas is where he’s always been: center stage.

He’s costarred with theatrical legends, sung with David Bowie, topped the pop charts and TV ratings, made Hollywood movies, and was the first Jesus Christ Superstar on the London stage—the best ever according to the show’s co-creator, Sir Tim Rice. Packed full of anecdotes and behind-the-scenes revelations, this is a close-up look at the joys and disappointment, the hard work, creativity, and risk-taking that goes into a lifetime as a star.

Paul did the original workshop of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s worldwide sensation Cats and went on to its West End premiere. His dramatic roles have included villainous Gavin Sullivan in EastEnders, so different from his loveable rogue Vince Pinner in Just Good Friends. He’s also built a distinguished career as the producer of hugely successful stage musicals including Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and Singin’ in the Rain. Paul will celebrate the 50th anniversary of starring in Jesus Christ Superstar in August 2022.

Today, he has endeared himself to a new television audience, traveling to exotic retirement destinations to check in to The Real Marigold Hotel.

As the lead in the first London production of the censorship-smashing 1968 rock musical Hair, Paul, unlike many of this costars, did not reveal all. In a manner of speaking, he does now....

National Treasure

A fascinating life story of one of our enduring entertainers. His passion for his work and sense of mischievous humour is evident throughout. Well worth a listen.

Loved It

Was very surprised to hear of Pauls full life as he has done so much more than I has ever realised. When he was on the Marigold Hotel series he was humble and never bragged about his achievements in the theatre and after hearing his story he has been an allrounder and has been hugely successful. Didn't want it to end. Maybe there's another book which sheds some light on his personal life as that would have been better to have intertwined that with his professional life. Thanks Paul

Paul's knowledge of the theatre and TV and the fact he has enjoyed every bit of it

Although I have enjoyed listening and love his enthusiasm, my disappointment was that I had read his original Autobiography andi much is repeated in this book .
Interesting about productions and funding shows and the risks he has taken .
I loved the information about the Marigy hotel.
