Summary

When Mikayla imagined her prom night, she envisioned a fairy-tale evening full of romance. So when betrayal and tragedy come in quick succession, Mikayla is completely destroyed. Suddenly, everything she loved and everyone she relied on are tragically, irrevocably gone.

Jake, a handsome boy she just met, happens to witness her loss. With no one to turn to, Mikayla is forced to depend on this near stranger and his family, and he in turn is determined to take care of her. But Mikayla - thrust into adulthood with no one to guide her - is desperate to contain her grief and hide what she considers to be her weakness. Mikayla and Jake both want more, but despite their growing closeness and intense chemistry, she tries to keep her distance and protect her heart. As he does everything in his power to win her trust, Mikayla must choose between remaining alone and safe or letting love in.

Loved this book

I really liked this book story was girly but a little risky

There was 2 readers which made it more realistic when it was talking from the male and female point of view wasn’t a fan of the American assents though

Not for under eighteen or the faint of heart...

I LOVED this book. I didn't realize at the beginning how sexual it was, but still loved it nonetheless. Which they would have picked a different female reader...her voice isn't right for this.

Amazing Story

I absolutely love the More Than series and couldn't wait to listen to the audio version. The story is still amazing but the performance was lack luster. The female voice was kind of robotic.

That being said, I am keeping this and will listen to it again and again because it's a love story like no other and the quick wit and humor that Jay McLean implants into her books makes the characters lovable. I hope the rest of the series is added to audible soon.

The Worst Book I've Had the Displeasure of Reading

What disappointed you about More Than This?

I was expecting a fun, sexy romance and instead I got a bizarre fever dream that pretended to be fun and sexy and instead came off as deeply, deeply troubling, vain, childish, poorly written, with all-around awful and unlikable characters that ended up being a metaphorical dumpster fire of clichés, bad writing, mediocre performances, and unrealistic plot points that were unintentionally hilarious. I'd be tempted to call this a "so bad it's good" book because I DID laugh at it so much, but it would be too painful to call anything about it "good" even in the ironic sense of the word.

What could Jay McLean have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I know this isn't constructive, but basically everything. If I were writing this book, I'd read it, realize it was a garbage concept packed with clichés, slut shaming, characters so jealous their skin would be green if they were real (which, come on, they aren't real, they barely act like actual human beings), and that, even on the basest level of intending for it to be a romance and realizing not a since line or really even a single WORD in this book is romantic, sexy, cute, etc...I'd realize that, and I'd throw out the concept. I'd start over. I'd realize this book isn't salvageable and just scrap it because it would actually be pretty close to being a crime to call this a book and sell this to people for real life money.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jeremy York and Allison Lynnewood ?

I wouldn't subject ANY of my favorite narrators to this trash heap. Jeremy York and Allison Lynnewood were fine, but if I ever run into a book where they're narrating, I might have war flashbacks to this book so they're definitely off the table for The Best Narrators I Listened to in 2018.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from More Than This?

As stated above, I'd cut all of it. It's trash. It's utter trash.

Any additional comments?

It baffles me that this book has an average of 4.5 on here and a 4.14 on Goodreads. It's books like these with ratings like that which make me wonder why god has forsaken us.

Irritating. Not plausible. Disappointing.

Started good, but quickly turned into an annoying teenage melodrama where the only conflict that existed could have been resolved if these two idiots would just communicate with each other. I was hoping for more substance and real struggle. Not to mention the lack of plausibility in many of the details. I'm willing to suspend disbelief, but this was too much for me. It's definitely the kind of book I would have loved as a teenager though, ha, but I've mostly out grown the cliches and over tired tropes this book uses. I was disappointed. I had really wanted to like this book.

The female narrator talks the entire time in this breathy, raspy, sort of sultry way that got on my nerves. The guy was good though.

Amazing!

What an amazing, emotional, roller coaster read! I'm new to Jay McLean books and I'm happy I chose this series to start! She did an amazing job showing us the emotions Kayla went thru and how badly Jake wanted her. It wasn't all "teen hormones". It was about love and finding ones self while going thru tragedy. Can't wait to start the next book with Logan's story!

Yuk. Waste of time

There is no retain value in writing or reading a book like those so I will take my time.

I don't know which is worse...the narration or the story.

It took every ounce of me to push past the first 5 annoying minutes of the story. I have a hard time starting a book and not finishing it. I'm glad I did, but the story didn't get much better.

I don't mind the male voice, the female's voice sounded so unenthusiastic about everything. Above all, I think that was the biggest turn off in the book. If you're interested in the story line, I recommend reading the book as opposed to listening to it.

I would pass

The female narrator was hard to listen to, especially when she tried to do an accent. The story/struggle was very weak & juvenile yet incorporated adult content. 5th grade reading with adult content. Stick with Nora Roberts!

Enjoyed

The story was definitely nothing I've read before. I think the trust issues were over played but it was understandable. My FAVORITE thing about this book are the hot encounters between the main characters. I enjoyed it greatly.
