Summary

Jake Whitley and I start off on the wrong foot. And then it goes downhill from there.

After my career implodes, I’m determined to make a living with my new event planning business.

But Jake and I are at odds from the moment I step on his private plane.

He wants to get rid of me. I want to throw his grandmother the celebration of a lifetime…on his property in Martha’s Vineyard.

He’s arrogant and a grump and acts like he owns the world. He’s also hot as hell, but I’d never cross that line. I can’t afford another mistake in my professional life. Not that Jake is attracted to me.

Just when I brace myself for another heated conversation, I discover a completely different man under the façade he’s created. He claims he’s always wanted me.

The last thing I need is for this gorgeous man to tilt my world on its axis. But Jake has other ideas, and so does his matchmaking grandmother.

Narrators ruined the story….

The narrators aren’t that good as the women’s voice is so annoying.. I love Layla Hagen’s books but this one had good story line but the narrators are ruining it.

Brilliant dual narration from Jacob Morgan and Emma Wilder. Perfect, they bring out the humour and story.

A Delightfully Wonderful Story & Listen🎧

Layla Hagen pens another amazing romance novel, and I loved everything about it, from her wonderful writing style to the fabulous characters and storylines she creates to the perfectly cast narrators who bring it all to life, from the pages to your ears. The story drew me right in, grabbing my attention and captivating it straight to the end. The characters are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with, they are easy to care about and even fall for. Jason Whitley comes from wealth but he did not want any part of his father’s business, so he started his own and created his own and built his own wealth. To say he is a workaholic would be an understatement, the man lives and breathes work, which leaves him little time to do much of anything else. Thankfully, his grandmother insists on family gatherings and that he takes at least one weekend off a month and while he retreats to his home in Martha’s Vineyard for that weekend, he still winds up taking work home with him. After a nasty breakup and losing her job, Natalie Summers is having a hard time trying to find another job, so she will do some party planning, and was thrilled to land Jeannie Whitley as client and to plan her 90th birthday party. Jeannie thinks her grandson’s home on Martha’s Vineyard would be perfect and that she should go to see it and it just so happens Jake is going there and arranges for her to join him. Jeannie warns her about Jake’s attitude, but Natalie does not let that phase her one bit, she has handled worse. Natalie waits at the airport for Jake to fly on his private plane, the treatment when she arrived was impressive and so was the lounge, but flying on a private plane did not agree with her and not only because of Mr. Jake Whitley the superior grump but because of the motion sickness it caused. Jake does not know what to make of Natalie, she is not like any woman he has met and is immune to his bossy alphatude. This is a beautifully plotted opposites attract, grumpy-sunshine romance, there is plenty of drama, a touch of angst, some witty humor and dialogue, heart-warming moments, heartfelt emotions and a wonderful romance. it is also a great start to what it going to be an amazing series, each Whitley is just as interesting as the other, with Jeannie and Abe, the meddling grandparents pulling some of their strings. Layla Hagen, thank you for another fabulously delightful story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Jacob Morgan and Emma Wilder are talented narrators and versatile voice artists. They had a complete understanding of the characters they portrayed, gave each a voice that suited that character’s persona, sounding believable and just as I pictured the characters to sound. They set the perfect tone for the story, handled the witty banter with ease, without missing a beat. You could hear how much heart they put into their work as they captured all the characters’ emotions and projected them into their performance and had you feeling every single one. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another wonderful listen.

Color me perplexed

No idea why this garnered good reviews. One of my most disappointing reads on audible thus far. Jacob Morgan was the ONLY redeeming value, but even he couldn't save this one. I've had to learn the hard way Emma pulls me out of the story so that may have contributed to my disappointment too. It simply wasn't worth my time or $. Doubt I'll continue on w the series - even though I like family sagas a lot - w/o improvement in story and change in female narrator. Don't like leaving negative reviews but wish I'd had more to go on before buying myself. Caveat emptor

Annoying heroine

I just can’t like these characters. The heroine is beyond cringe worthy with her behavior from the beginning. It felt like the author wanted to create a certain kind of dynamic between them but forgot to write the story that way.

Love this new series!

One of the things I love about Layla Hagen’s books are the big families and their complex family dynamics. This book introduces the Whitley brothers and their grandparents with grandmother playing the matchmaker. This book is full of witty banter, heartwarming family gatherings, a swoony hero and independent heroine, plenty of steamy encounters and a satisfying HEA.
Jacob Morgan and Emma Wilder brought their incredible talent to this book and took it to another level. Their range is phenomenal with all the brothers sounding distinct and grandmother Gene sounding exactly like the grandmother we all wish we had. I am looking forward to hearing the love stories of all the brothers!

Meh-Not worth the credit

Jacob Morgan was a huge draw for me as he never disappoints but he even can’t help this book. I can sometimes deal with Emma’s breathyness but the heroine was either written really badly or Emma’s voice made her super whiny and weak. The story line was very superficial and no real depth to it.

Cute and fun

Finnaly a man who gets it and wants to keep it. Low on the drama between the lowers. Fun and sweet.

Meddling grannies for the win!

When her volatile relationship with her ex got her to lose her job, Natalie resorts to making a living by following her mother's footsteps in event planning. So, she's thrilled when Mrs Whitley, an adorable soon-to-be-90 hires her to plan her birthday party. What Natalie doesn't know is that the adorable old lady has her matchmaking hat on.

Jake Whitley hasn't been in Boston for a while. Though he misses his grandparents and his brothers, he wants distance from his half-brothers: all products of his father's secret second family. He can't say no to his grandmother, though, and when she asks him to let her use his Martha's Vineyard estate as the venue for the party, he reluctantly says yes. That means having to deal with the bubbly event planner...

This books surprised me. I thought I was going to read a very light rom com but it deals with some heavy family dynamics. Jake is not the grump everyone seems to think he is and he falls pretty quickly for Natalie. There is some secondary plot with the ex that was totally unnecessary though, imho. Pretty low angst, considering the themes. A nice book to spend an afternoon with... and the narration is pure gold.

Narration: Emma Wilder as the bubbly and caring Natalie and Jacob Morgan as the workaholic, soft on the inside billionaire. You can't go wrong with this duo.

Possible triggers: toxic relationship with an ex, complicated family dynamics, cheating (secondary character - mention)

Ah, the grumpy CEO

Cute story. He’s that workaholic CEO who needs to slow down. She’s looking to start her own party planning business and his grandparents anniversary party is just the thing! They have chemistry but is that enough for an HEA?

Narrator

The narrator isn’t Jacob Morgan, it’s Zachary Webber. Or, Jacob sounds EXACTLY like Zachary. Love them both so it’s all good.

Grumpy Jake meets his match

This book was so good! I can’t wait for the next one to be released! The grandmother in this book is so sly and smart trying to bring her 2 families of grandkids together one way or another. She also wants to help heal her grandson Jakes heart! Her little scheme to hire a party planner is brilliant! I think when Natalie is hired for the party she gives Jake a run for his money the whole way through planning which is the kick in the butt he needs lol. Jacob and Emma did a kickazz job telling this story and Layla wrote an awesome grumpy successful business owner love story.
