Summary

Before the apocalypse is all said and done, it's going to have to survive Lockey.

Meet Erin Locke, snark-filled resident of Northwest England and general ignorer of social norms. All's going well enough for her on June 23, but then some people died, and then more people died, and then those people stopped being dead, and then the biting kicked in, and before you know it she's fighting zombies, leaping over walls and climbing to rooftops to stay alive.

But it's not just about staying alive, and after she befriends Particles the pug (don't worry, he lives) and Nate (former SAS operator who is the Yin to her Yang) Lockey comes to the realization that it isn't enough to hide, and loot canned goods.

She can build a future.

One worth fighting for.

All three books in this set are set in the Adrian's Undead Diary universe, and are edited by creator Chris Philbrook. Lockey's story tells of the English apocalypse, in step with Adrian's American experience.

Contained within:

No More Heroes:

On June 23, the dead inexplicably awaken with murderous resolve. For the first days, Erin Locke—Lockey to her friends—survives alone as England collapses with shocking speed.

With her sense of humor, goofy insights, and can-do attitude, she chronicles her adventures in a journal to keep her spirits and sanity intact. She befriends retired Royal Marine Nate Carter, and the unlikely duo find themselves a place to call home.

Her new security is threatened by an encounter with survivors that ends in blood, and a vengeful hunt by the dead man’s brother begins. After skirmishes with the feudal lord of their new lawless land, they learn they're the only chance of salvation for innocents enslaved by the warlord and are forced to act.

There are no heroes left, so it's up to a fast-talking, foul-mouthed woman and a deadly, middle-aged ex-marine.

We Will Rise:

Grieving tragic loss, Lockey and Nate shift to acquiring resources for their new community’s survival, but something dark stirs.

An eerie shift in the behaviour of the dead makes Lockey’s apocalypse experience feel personal, and she has no idea why she appears to be the sole target for their rage.

Convinced something otherworldly is at play, yet torn by questions she can’t answer, Lockey puts her boundless energy into building a safe home for her people. It's fleeting though, for a new threat, obsessed with dominion over the dwindling number of locals appears.

Investigating this new peril while searching for survivors - and hoping for answers to the questions that plague her days—Lockey and Nate discover this threat is far more menacing than they could imagine....

...as dreams of light and dark commence.

The Devil's Due:

Lockey’s community continues to expand, but clashes with others increase in intensity. Reunited with old friends and finding new, things take a dark turn when the Nomads take a personal interest in her. Selected by an unknowable force to lead one of humanity’s last bastions of defense in a war against the dead, the Dark will use any weapon to ensure her failure.

As Lockey and Nate search for the final member of their mystical trio, their dreams haunted by ghosts, the Nomad threat grows, putting Lockey’s heart through its worst crucible yet.

Despite the eruption of conflicts, Lockey’s confrontation with Maddock is inevitable: both are champions for the forces at play. Countless lives depend on the outcome; one a flame of hope for humanity, the other a warlord of the dead.

Lockey is a breath of sweary fresh air!

Basically this is the whole package, a zombie apocalypse in northern England, fantastic characters and a hero pug! Brilliantly written and narrated.

Back to Back and still want more

Absolutely brilliant, it completely drew me in and kept me listening. In an omnibus, that's 33 hours of a rollercoaster of a story superbly written and narrated. I want more even after listening to all three back to back.

The apocalypse is here and I'm fresh out of tea!

Foul language, gruesome deaths, and a plucky protagonist. What's not to love?

These books deliver much more though. Beneath the veneer of gore and humour is a gritty exploration of survival in an apocalyptic world. Passages of shock and horror are peppered with pop culture references. There are poignant moments that really resonate, and laugh out loud moments that feel wholly inappropriate.

Great writing by Carl, and a great performance by Danielle. Highly recommended.

How Apocalypse novels should be!

I absolutely loved this series and have been left hungry for more! I can see exactly why it won such a big award, having listened.
The characters and story are incredibly well written. The narration is top notch and as an omnibus it's a credit very well spent!
The scenes in this shift from laugh out loud to genuine upset and horror. So rarely do female characters get so well constructed and written as they have been in Lockey, who we watch change and develop through the books with Nate at her side. The diary style is perfectly complemented with additional fiction, which adds so much to the story and understanding of what's going on. I couldn't stop listening! A few scenes have left me genuinely affected even after finishing. 😭🤦🏼‍♀️
I'm not a massive zompoc fan as a genre usually but love AUD and this series has struck gold with this British addition to the world.
I can't wait to see what Carl Meadows has in store next!

Love this series!

I was a big fan of Adrian's Undead Diary so I was made up when I found this series set in the same universe. I thoroughly enjoyed the journey of Lockey from the bouncing, over-caffeinated rubber ball in chapter one through to the badass champion of light that she becomes - I love seeing a true character development arc where the person who begins the story isn't the same one that reaches the end. And don't get me started on my new man-crush in Nate, he is truly lethal and the absolute definition of walking softly and carrying a big stick. And of course there's Particles...who doesn't love a lucky Pug?

If you enjoyed Adrian's Undead Diary or even just a woman who can throw out masterfully crafted insults at the rate of a gattling gun then give this a try - the story is amazing, the narration is perfect and you will love the heroes and hate the villains. It's easy to see why this won awards for the story and narration. I had these books individually but I threw a spare credit at the omnibus so I could binge it again.

I really need a book 4!

A joyride through the zom-pocalypse!

If you have ever wondered what an expletive filled high octane joyride through a zombie apocalypse would feel like, then this is definitely the series for you. Hugely enjoyable while hitting the extreme highs and desolate lows of life after the world defecated in the proverbial bed. Inappropriately funny and, at times, gruesome, with characters you love and villains you despise. It is both deep and philosophical as the series explores the depths of depravity the human race can achieve against the backdrop of a heroine, well who just doesn’t want to be one, trying to save everyone.

Brilliant. Eagerly awaiting more

Please say there is more to come. I'm hooked and being from Manchester it's against every fibre of my being that I can say I love this Woman from Liverpool, so it must be worth a read/listen

Brilliant Series

The characters really jump off the page, with marvellous action and a fantastic narrator. Even though I have all the books, this omnibus addition is a great value way to listen to such an excellent performance. Can’t wait to see what comes next for Locky and Nate…

Great spin off

I was a bit dubious about this as I’m such a fan of Chris Philbrook and Adrian’s Undead Diary. I wasn’t sure anyone could do that world justice. I was so wrong! This is a brilliant emotionally charged and perfect accompaniment to Adrian’s story, and sets up Lockeys interaction with him perfectly. Loved it. And REALLy loved Danielle Cohens narration. Brilliant.
