Story
The year is 2650. Seventy-five years ago, an alien fleet attacked Earth. Without warning. Without mercy. We were not prepared. Hundreds of millions perished. Dozens of cities burned. We nearly lost everything. Then the aliens abruptly left. We rebuilt. We armed ourselves. We swore: never again. But the aliens never came back. Until now. With overwhelming force the aliens have returned, striking deep into our territory, sending Earth into a panic.

Lieutenant Jacob Mercer likes fast motorcycles, faster women, and screamin' space fighters. As a reckless fighter jock in the Resistance fleet battling the Corsican Empire, he lives solely for the thrill of taking out as many Imperial bogeys as he can. A rebel victory is looming on the horizon when the Imperials abruptly change tactics and, in a surprising show of devastating force, incinerate the city of Dallas with a thermonuclear blast - killing millions - and delivering a merciless example of what happens to upstart worlds..

Story
In the twentieth century Earth sent probes, transmissions and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy.

Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Story
In the 25th century, humans have conquered space. The advent of faster-than-light travel has opened up hundreds of habitable planets for colonization, and humans have exploited the virtually limitless space and resources for hundreds of years with impunity. So complacent have they become with the overabundance that armed conflict is a thing of the past, and their machines of war are obsolete and decrepit. What would happen if they were suddenly threatened by a terrifying new enemy?

Brilliant story, hoping more to come
I've listened to all 6 books over 2 weeks, I was tipped off about this series by another review on a book I nearly bought saying this series was better. The other reviewer was right this series is well worth the listen and I look forward to listening to in again in the not to distant future.
One tip, I like books to go to sleep to, I lay in bed 5 hours the one night listening to one of these books but the story was so good I couldn't go to sleep! Also note that I knew the book was keeping me awake after the first hour and a half but it took me three and a half hours to bring my self to turn it off! I will have to go and get the authors other books now and hope that they are just as good.

I am addicted to the story line and the personalities/voices of the characters. So much so that each time I buy the next book in the series and start reading but then have to stop because the audiobook adds so much more. I lose my self 8n the story, like I'm right there in the cockpit with Balsy or Civic or one of the other crew members!!

Cheesy but good with a few flaws.
The "horrors of war" internal dialog got really old. I get it, it helps with the character development, but when it's in EVERY scene, it detracts from the story, rather than adding to it.

One of my Favourite Sci-Fi Series of All Time!!
In Part 6 of this Epic series, the impossible has happened, and Granger has returned, but even more amazing, he has brought with him Moons, transformed into powerful weapons, almost like Death Stars with Q-Jump capability – and there are 12 of them.
But he has returned because the Swarm have returned, not that they ever left.
Book #6 is really fascinating, in that we get not only the continuation of the main story of Shelby and the Crew trying to stop the Swarm, but there is this wonderful intrigue and political intrigue surrounding multiple other characters in the story, including the President and Vice President and factions of the Grangerites as well as the Leader of the GPC and the Military Leaders of the IDF. Just as intriguing are the various alien races, the Skiohra, Dolmasi, Valarisi, and even the other yet to be encountered races, the Findiri and Quiassi.
Webb has created this masterful story of intrigue and mystery, with multiple different storylines all interwoven into this compelling and thrilling adventure.
In this 6th book, everything has come to a head at Britannia, with the Swarm making an attack on the human world that is second in population only to Earth, with over 8 billion people. Ballsy and the Independence race to aid the fight, but Shelby is trying to find out what is happening on Titan, if Granger is really there or not.
Shelby gets some answers, but not all of them, before they have to make a desperate fight to save a planet, and this opening sequence of the book is outstanding, one of the best of the entire series, with an intense and brutal fight that sees the new “Granger Moons” facing off against the Swarms new terrifying Carrier ships.
Webb is a Master in creating these epic battle scenes that are reminiscent of the old Sci-Fi Movies like Return of the Jedi, in which there is this chaotic and desperate fight to the death to save something, in this case, Britannia, but the descriptive work of the starships, and starfighters blazing away at each other is truly remarkable.
I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but the rest of the story is just as incredible as the start, if not more so.
The other stunning part of this book is the Character work. Nick Webb has always been known as an outstanding character driven story Author, but as this series as progressed, he has only improved with each book, showing some extraordinary writing skills. The Character of Shelby Proctor is not only believable as the cantankerous old Admiral, a living legend, and to many, a religious icon, to others, just a figurehead, the person who once stood with the Man who defeated the greatest threat Humanity has ever faced. Although Tim Granger has been given the credit for defeating the Swarm all those years ago, it was Shelby Proctor who was there with him all the way, and there are many who understand that Granger would never have done what he did without her, that his victory was as much hers as it was his. And the fact she is the one still standing, dealing with the remaining Swarm threat, and the ongoing alien threat, makes her the true hero. As this story progresses and different enemies try to take out the Admiral, or commit other acts, it is fascinating watching the various crew all rising to stand with their Admiral, never wavering.
Webb has created this amazing character, and this mythology around her, and as you read the story, you actually find yourself as the reader, getting caught up in it, and this just shows how incredible Nick Webb is as a Character Author.
It is not just Proctor though, there is the ever lovable Ballsy, the quirky Rayna Scott, the Younger Ballsy – Zivic, and the crew of the independence, Qwerty, Whitehorse, Mumford. Then there are the additional characters from the Military and the different alien factions (( am not going to list characters so I don’t give anything away).
Each of these characters though has so much depth, Webb has given each of them so much detail, when you go from the Skiohra Matron Mothers, with their inner children, and the history there, and the background, which you could almost write another book on, and then to members of the Independence bridge crew (Qwerty’s back story is just hilarious), there is so much world building in each and everyone of the characters, and this just adds so much more to the story.
This has been an epic series, and in this final book, everything comes to a head, and Webb does a fantastic job of wrapping up ‘most’ of the storylines that have been opened up from the start of this new series, or remained open from the first series. I say most, as he has left some open as there is another series already, and it was obvious that there was another series coming when he wrote this (No complaints here!!)
I will give him major credit though for (No Spoilers) how he wrapped up this series, it was really well done.
One thing I will say about these books to, Webb is not afraid to kill off his main characters. There have been so many different characters that you have turned the page, and BAM they’re dead – and you actually have to go back and just re-read the page again, to make sure you read it right. But it is great to have an Author not afraid to kill off their main characters.
Overall, this has been an exceptional addition to what is still one of my favourite Sci-Fi Series of all time, from one of my favourite Sci-Fi Authors. This is an absolute must read (or listen), you won’t be disappointed!!
Greg Tremblay is an absolutely brilliant Narrator, with a very clear and concise voice that is both easy to understand, but also easy to listen to, he is so good to listen to, you can listen to him for hours. He has such a relaxing voice, that it is really great to listen to him Narrate a story. Tremblay does a masterful job with his characters in creating both male and female voices, giving very clear and distinct voices for the different genders. But more than that, he provides very clear voices for each of the characters as well, so that you can easily distinguish the different characters, so as you listen to the story, you don’t have to be told who is talking, you can just tell from the voices.
Tremblay not only Narrates, but he really brings his characters to life, providing the emotional aspect to his characters also, whether, happy, sad, angry, distressed, Tremblay really provides such a powerful performance whenever he narrates a story, and this makes it an absolute must listen, as his stories are also so great to listen to – much better than reading as you get so much more out of the story!

The first two books of this series were the first I listened to when I got my membership long ago. Always kept thinking about the story... thinking of coming back to it - never did. Decided to listen to the books again and glad I did! I couldn't stop listening. This series is so Good!
Fun, witty dialogue. Great characters, Engrossing story.
This series is better, or as good, as any other same genre series on audibles!
I hope Webb puts the next few on audibles as well. I'm finding a trend were great authors are not continuing series on Audibles, Maybe this trend will drive competition and drive %'s so it's worth it to the authors again?

Great book
The 6th book didnt disappoint. The dialog was a little cheesy but easy to follow and very enjoyable. Great story and with great characters. The narrator Greg Tremblay was outstanding. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
