Summary

The classic Michael Lewis book that defined an era of greed, gluttony, and outrageous fortune, available for the first time unabridged and read by the author.

In 1986, before Michael Lewis became the best-selling author of The Big Short, Moneyball, and Flash Boys, he landed a job at Salomon Brothers, one of Wall Street’s premier investment firms.

During the next three years, Lewis rose from callow trainee to New York- and London-based bond salesman, raking in millions for the firm and cashing in on a modern-day gold rush. Liar’s Poker is the culmination of those heady, frenzied years - a behind-the-scenes look at a unique and turbulent time in American business. This new audio edition, produced by the same team that produces his number one podcast Against the Rules, is unabridged, read by the author, and features archival news clips from the era, original scoring and sound effects, as well as a bonus episode from the companion podcast.

From the frat-boy camaraderie of the 41st-floor trading room to the killer instinct that made ambitious young men gamble everything on a high-stakes game of bluffing and deception, Liar’s Poker is both “the funniest book on Wall Street I’ve ever read” (Tom Wolfe) and the launchpad for Michael Lewis’ storied career.

Brilliant

So happy to have come across this brilliant book by Micheal Lewis and of life in Fixed Income in the 80s and one can see how it eventually culminated in the financial crisis.

On a personal note, so sorry to hear of the loss of his beloved Dixie. Listening to Playing to Win was heartbreaking.

Brilliant

An utterly fascinating look into the chaos that is Wall Street and just how it of control it really was. Even the birth of what would go on to become the 2008 financial crisis can be found here. Fun and engaging throughout as only Michael Lewis can.

Finally!

As an avid Michael Lewis fan and someone who works in the industry I have been waiting a long time for a proper audiobook version of Liar’s Poker. The older recording was abridged and not read particularly well. This version is the full book and Lewis reads it himself with great energy and inflection. Liar’s Poker is a story that lends itself very well to an audiobook so if you’re into the book and enjoy audiobooks I can wholeheartedly recommend this title! Thank you to Michael Lewis and company for bringing this to Audible!

Been waiting 10 years for this!

I “read” the original abridged version of Liar’s Poker over 10 years ago and was surprised to discover after the fact that it was an abridged version. Even that version felt complete and well told. Now, with this unabridged version I feel like the original black and white version has been restored to full color and in 4K.

More detail, fuller story, and read by the author!

If you listened to the old version, you’ll love this one. And if you read The Big Short, you’ll see the origins of that story here. Enjoy!

Worth the credit - UNABRIDGED

I just hope Michael Lewis does not stop writing, and that he does not tire of reading his own work.

Still holds up!

I was very happy that Michael Lewis decided to narrate the book himself. He does a great job of telling the story(because he was there when a lot of it happened).
You don’t have to be interested in bonds or stocks to find this book interesting. It’s great whether you know a lot or very little.
I got the audible membership specifically to listen to this book.

Finally!

I LOVE this book and have probably read it at least a dozen times over the years. It was such a shame that it was relegated to an abridged audio book, but I was thrilled when I saw they released the full length version. Great story, great characters, and goes perfectly with The Big Short. Nice little surprise to find out there is a revealing and update on a couple of the characters on his podcast.

Time less story

Well written perspective of the inside subjective and seductive impressions of one’s first real job. The behaviors of this industry with the oversized corporate egos match the industry. Predator prey relationships can engross anyone so completely, it’s hard to break out. Lucky for us Lewis is a gifted writer and did some good with his new career, writing. Thanks
