Summary

Someone has a secret. A secret worth killing for....

When a series of suicides, linked to the Wellness Spirit Centre, turn out to be murder, it brings together DCI Whitney Walker and forensic psychologist Dr Georgina Cavendish for another investigation. But as they delve deeper, they come across a tangle of secrets and the very real risk that the killer will strike again.

As the clock ticks down, the only way forward is to infiltrate the centre. But the outcome is disastrous, in more ways than one.

For fans of Angela Marsons, Rachel Abbott and M A Comley, Lethal Secret is the fourth book in the Cavendish & Walker crime fiction series.

Includes a special bonus note from the author.

Critic reviews

"Narrator Clare Corbett flawlessly creates the accents and setting of Lenchester, England, while introducing Detective Chief Inspector Whitney Walker and her polar opposite, psychologist Georgina Cavendish.... Corbett's best creation is pathologist Clare Dexter whose eccentricities add a bit of levity. The well-rendered step-by-step procedural, with its gripping conclusion, makes for an exceptional listen." (AudioFile Magazine, review of Cavendish & Walker)

Relevant topic better story

And gripping as usual to the end. Many twists and ruses but the culprit was not all that surprising. Too much effort to portrait a harmless person or too much paranoid readers for sure. It still kept the suspense as it was not clear until the final how the rest of the story would develop and who else found guilty of some or other. Only downside was the still annoying he said she said annotations. It’s not easy to just ignore them as it destroys the flow. Good editing should have gotten rid of at least half of them where it was clear from the story who was speaking. But as the stories other than that are easy reading and gripping and interesting enough I’ll go on with the next instalments. Still curious how the stories develop and where the interaction of players will go in future.

Good listen

I found this book in the series, better than the last, but not as good as the first book. However, I enjoy that the characters are growing and will continue the series

Good story

Good story and plot. The "he said" "she said" was at times monotonous and most irritating was "Widney" - who's "Widney"?? Narration was good except where they who would get complacent with pronunciation of Whitney. Personally, I found this aspect quite jarring but if you can get past that, it's a good read.

Great Freebie

I have really enjoyed listening to this series as part of my membership. I don’t always write a review but felt I should to counteract the other review that criticises the performance. I don’t agree. I am a fan of the narrator and I get immersed in the story with her use of different accents and voices for the characters. Delivery is great in my opinion. I am getting a little too good at figuring out who dunnit early on which is the only reason I dropped to 4 stars for the story. Overall, I have very much enjoyed these books.
