Summary

There are some things you simply can’t escape. For Van, it’s family.

Out among the stars, his cousin, Carter Yost, drags Van and his team into a criminal ring run by the High Doctor—a dangerous con artist with delusions of grandeur. Working from the abandoned world of Pathway, the High Doctor has created a cult, stealing a fortune from the fearful, sick, and scared.

If there’s one thing Van hates, it’s a bully, and the High Doctor has his full attention. But in order to crush the criminal cult, Van needs bigger, better armor—and that comes with a price.

The rarest metals cost money, and that means doing a few dirty jobs in order to pay for the tools of his trade. Van’s got the will. His team has the skill.

Now, he has to find a way. And the way will surely involve war.

Still going strong

Normally by this time into a series the stories are stale and the characters have become caricatures of themselves, but this series just keeps on going -- fresh and well-researched. Not very bloody, not a romance; just good entertainment. And the narrator is ah-mazing.

Great series

surprised by the ending - I especially enjoy the portrayal of the variety of aliens and discovering how very different and yet like us they are. The interaction between characters is well done and well, as the main character would say "just plain fun"

Habit-forming

this series continues to impress. it's right up there with Expeditionary Force, with each book gaining more traction, more aliens to meet, lovw or hate, and the good guys continuing to make the galaxy safer, one cool fight after the other...

Solid continuation of the story

Legacy of Stars is a solid continuation of the story. It is simple formula of military space opera, and it works - just a right amount of drama, comedy, and fights!

fun continuation of the series.

This is a fun continuation in this interesting series. no great new revelations, but a continuing of the action. A betrayal, and a redemption of course, but no significant character growth. And none of that really matters as it was still fun.

The great adventure continues

The intriguing story of Van & crew’s search for the identity thieves continues.
It’s so easy to get sucked into this series. The Star Trek TOS references in chapter 7 made me just out laughing.
The story brings a bit more character development to the group in a natural flow of banter. It’s very enjoyable.

Entertaining

I don’t really read Scifi books, but gave the Backyard starship a try before summer. I really enjoy the car actors and story line of the series. I can’t wait to read the next book.
