Summary

The second installment of the riveting new thriller series by former Green Beret and USA Today best-selling author Jason Kasper

"David Rivers is back with a vengeance...and the stakes have never been higher." (Steven Konkoly, USA Today best-selling author of the Ryan Decker series)

After the largest terrorist attack in US history is narrowly foiled, the sole enemy survivor has only one name to provide his interrogators: Ghulam Samedi, a fugitive hiding in the rugged mountains of China’s Xinjiang Province.

As part of the CIA’s newly minted targeted killing program, David Rivers and his team are tasked with assassinating Samedi.

But once they are inside China, there will be no backup, no air support, and no escape - only a handful of local assets with dubious motivations. The location is known for its opium smugglers, violent separatist movement, and heavy deployment of Chinese secret police.

Which is exactly why Rivers’ team of former mercenaries was assembled for this covert operation. They are unilateral, unattributable, and if things go wrong, utterly expendable.

As Rivers embarks on his most challenging mission yet, he will stop at nothing to hunt down Samedi…the last target standing between him and a sinister conspiracy with global implications.

Great writing as always

Plenty of twists and challenges, although a few were a little easy to see coming.
The only item I felt let it down, only because I would either have to pause or jump back, was the narrators lack of making the characters voices much easier to identify🧐. Only 2 stood out was one southern accent and the other purely because of the obvious nature of their personality (which of course was down to the writer). I don't wish to name characters just in case this is the first book listeners hear.

These Shadow Strike books just keep getting better

This series continues to give me my high-intensity action fix with each new release. Last Target Standing was action-packed and filled with intrigue on multiple levels. I’m looking forward to seeing where Mr. Kasper takes us in the next and future installments of this series. Corey M Snow’s narration was very good, his variety of character voices fit each one.

Lots of Action

Lots of action sequences ... but they seemed repetitive .... Could have spent time building characters...

Really, Really Enjoyed

Educational, great character development and a fun listen. Sometimes the reader sounded mechanical but it could have been intentional.

Not nearly up to the quality of the previous book

Enemies of My Country had scope and depth. It had international reach, a brilliant terrorist plot, relationship suspense, career and prison jeopardy for the team, and an ending with satisfying closure. Last Target Standing has very little of any of those attributes. Much expected insubordination by the team and fumbling almost every opportunity.

I don't want to give away any exciting spoilers such as that all the action occurred within about a hundred mile radius and ended not with a crescendo but, rather, with a minuendo and a very unsubtle teaser for the sequel.

This feels like a transition book. I hope so. Because, from a content and story advancement viewpoint, it should have been shortened to a 1.5 novella.

If the next book doesn't represent the author's better effort, I will probably lose interest in the series.

Entertainment

This book series gets better with every novel. Building on each one. It makes you want to get to the next one. I wonder what’s gonna happen next. Just the way it should be.

Amazing detail of weapons, covert operations, medical knowledge of response battlefield trauma. Narrator was superb.

Amazing detail of weapons, covert operations and management of battlefield trauma. The narrator was superb unlike the ridiculous opinion of one reviewer.
