Loved the book
Overall loved the book, good performance.
I could be wrong but I’m sure there’s a mistake initially, whereby someone tells her something but supposedly doesn’t.
Sadly, towards the end FMC got on my nerves a bit and there was a scene (in the tower) that I wanted over and done with . But was eventually won around in the end.

Not bad, but didn't grip me
I tried this as I've seen it recommended on Booktok several times in the romantacy genre. While I get that it may work for some, it just didn't grip me. It all felt a bit too stretched out and main character didn't have enough agency for me. I finished it, but I don't care enough to read the next one. The narration was fine, but not great.

Holy shit Scarlet is so annoying
Honestly guys, she’s so hard to get behind. She NEVER seems to learn her lessons, it’s infuriating and it makes it almost impossible to enjoy the story at all….which does have some interest to it. But holy hell, girl, get it together. **rolls eyes so hard**

Better than ACOTAR
This book had me from the start. The story is well paced, characters beautifully written, and has a few surprises in there. I am completely in love with the world Melissa has created and truly can't get enough of it. I can't recommend this series highly enough. Full of assassin's, magic, Fae, enemies to lovers, royalty, vampires and so much more.

atrocious writing
the narration is the saving grace of this book
the writing is utterly atrocious, nobody speaks they all growl, seethe, murmur, purr etc, sometimes all in one sentence, ridiculous amount of unnecessary flowery descriptions and omg is the heroine an absolute bloody hysterical idiot or what? and unlikeable as well
I know at 19 we're all stupid but geeeez she's beyond that, the ideas behind the plot are actually pretty engaging but the literary delivery is nearly as unreadable as 50 shades
spicy scenes on the fanfic level, but will do
the only saving grace of this abysmal attempt at writing is narrator, she managed to pull me in and hold my attention even though I would throw the paper book in a in after first chapters
even excellent narration will not convince me to buy rest of series, I've listened last 4h on fast forward and know for sure I won't be able to endure 5 books of this literary disaster
