Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
The hunt is on and the police are running out of time.
Two young women are missing, their only connection being that they attended the same party, hosted by a notorious businessman. When one of the women is found murdered, the police discover an unusual signature left by the killer, giving them reason to suspect he will strike again.
They're facing a killer unlike any other.
And catching him calls for a detective like no other. But the legendary Harry Hole is gone. Struck off the force, down and out in Los Angeles, it seems that nothing can entice him back to Oslo. Until the woman who saved Harry's life is put in grave danger, and he is forced to join the hunt for the murderer.
To catch him will push harry to the limit.
He'll need to bring together a misfit team of former operatives to do what he can't do alone: stop an unstoppable killer. But as the evidence mounts, it becomes clear that there is more to this case than meets the eye.
For Harry, this just got personal.

Hats off to Nesbo
I have listened to all of the Harry Hole series and whilst one or two have dipped slightly in my estimation they are all a cracking listen and this one is no exception.
From the outset I was completely gripped by the story, the prologue being a masterclass of suspense in itself. The characters were true to form and the narration is of course wonderful, Sean Barrett being born to the role.
It has a contemporary feel and the Uma Thurman mention made me smile a lot.
One thing I have always found with these books is that I sometimes lose track of who is who. The problem though, I think, is mine rather than the authors. The fact that I can’t remember which character has which name is more a failing on my part and instead of being irked by this I find I rather enjoy having to sort the characters names out as the book progresses.
If you are new to this series I strongly suggest you start from the beginning, but, if you have reached this last book you won’t be disappointed, it is Harry Hole at his best.

Excellent!!!!
Absolute return to form for easily the best writer of this kinda stuff, Jo Nesbo. I have to admit being a huge fan of the Harry Hole novels I was kind of worried about the quality of this book due to the fact that I've felt some of the other series I'm listening to have had a real drop in form of late .... Not here though! I'd class this among the best of the Harry Hole novels, excellent story, characters, especially the motives and actions of the antagonist which really have to be heard to believe (stuff of nightmares) Nesbo manages to come up with fresh ideas even after so many outings for the old detective. I also have to mention in my opinion the best narrator of them all Sean Barret who does his usual incredible job narrating this book. I'd honestly listen to him narrate the phonebook.

Sublime
The Harry Hole series of novels is simply the best out there. If you’re here looking for something new to get your teeth into, go back, download The Bat, start from the beginning and work your way through to this point. The characters are delightful in their intricacy and believability. The relationships are wonderfully imagined across the board and the stories are as engaging as they are inventive. I hope this series lasts forever. Masterclass.

Series has run out of steam
Last few in the series have been disappointing and this one again failed to ignite at all. Long, tedious and implausible, with some boring trivial LA sub plot.

Reignited my love for Harry Hola.
Powerful. Emotional. Suspense hit perfectly.
I couldn’t wait for my next audible dose every time I had to put the book away. Narrator was on point with all characters & delivery.

Harry Hola is back
Jo Nesbo back to his best and when Harry Hola returns need I say no more. A bit confusing near the end had to go back a couple of chapters. Great story with a subject I have never heard and of course a lovely twist at the end. Get it in your Library soonest

Sick foul mouthed filth
Noir is one thing but this just disgusting , the foul language is of the worst kind and how Sean could prostitute himself by reading this filth is beyond my belief .

Too much hyperbole
I think I’m done with Harry. The last few books have been the same formula. Alcoholic, self-pitying rambling. Murder/death of likeable characters. Two or three “surprise” twists before the big reveal followed by the unsurprising repetitious leaving of Harry who’s “done with this”. Well, for once I am right there with you Harry. I’m over a supposedly intelligent middle aged man who shows absolutely no growth in any areas of his life. It’s boring

This should not have been HH series book
I love whole HH series. I admire how H is one step ahead of colleagues and manages to surprise me how he figures everything out. Nesbo always managed to trick the reader in a good way and than presented plausible explanation through Harry. But here?!?! Here none of it is the case. Harry is slow, always one step behind and even his personal live has nearly no development. Previous installment had at least last 2-3 hours where it clicked. Here I was so detached from the story. And Harry is just the bystander, not the big brain. Please, Mr. Nesbo don’t continue with HH this way. You don’t need this. You have enough money to live your live and to have patience for another great series.

Nesbo on autopilot
Have been a avid listener of all previous books. This let me down. Too many cliché references to Hole’s past and demons. Seems written on a template.

Best one yet
I throughly enjoyed every minute of this one. Can’t wait for the next one. I only wish Harry Hole and John Rebus would get together to share a couple drinks and to find a solution.
