Summary

If you were catapulted back to 1976, what would you do?

Jason Apsley has a mind-boggling second chance to change the future, but will he take it?

Meet Jason Apsley, a 42-year-old divorcee who's an opinionated, miserable bugger—struggling with life, exacerbated by his negative attitude. A random event shifts time, causing Jason to continue life in 1976, six months before he's due to be born. He even left behind Beth, his one and only friend who supported him through some difficult times.

Can life get any worse?

Although Jason is the same person, he finds himself teleported into the life of another Jason Apsley from a different generation, one with a very different outlook on life. All alone, Jason tries to enlist the support of his grandfather on this turbulent journey and finds he has to adapt quickly, as every encounter brings further head-spinning challenges.

But what of Beth, his one true friend who suffered a traumatic childhood? Will Jason be brave enough to seize this opportunity to change her past? Can Jason change the future and become more like other Jason, or will time refuse to bend?

Will Jason learn from his past and take this second chance?

Weird voice of the narrator

The book was a nice time travel story. For me, it didn't break any new ground, but was a nice story leading well into a second book! I really found the narrator's voice difficult to listen to. I thought I was going to bin the book but managed to get to the end but it was not an easy listen. I find it odd that they choose a narrator whose voice distracts from the story. I won't be listening to the next part as it is again narrated by Lee Bedlow, no offense Lee. I may buy the second book and read it though as the story is nice.

The narrator wasn’t the best

Story was good and the details from the 70’s was pretty accurate- looking forward to the next episode.

Annoying narrator

Struggled to get through this book - I found the narration really annoying, particularly in regards to the love interest Jenny. The story also never really any made sense and the ending … well, I’ll let you draw your own conclusions, should you make it to the end.

A good story but

I stayed with this as I wanted to know how the story ended. But as others have said the narrator wasn’t great . I did also feel that the author had written a list of typical ‘70s’ themes and lifestyle cliches and tried very hard to shoehorn in as many as he could. It distracted from the story as every biscuit, car, item of clothing etc was focused on.

Beautiful story, took me back to 1976

Great story that captured the feeling of 1976, and how different then and 2019 are. Brilliantly described and kept me interested with the odd tear, smile and laugh along the way. Can’t wait to read/listen to the next one.

Great concept

This is a really good story line, a bit Back to the Futurish. The return to the past before his birth causes Jason all manner of problems. A real 5 star listen with an excellent narrator. Thoroughly recommended.

Gripping story

I enjoy a book with a good few twists and turns and this had a few good ones. The time travel was believable and the characters were likeable. I listened to the whole book in just a couple of days as it was so gripping. I highly recommend this to anyone.

Excellent read

I loved this book. It was fun going back in time with Jason. The story is easy, funny, and enjoyable. Well written and with so many 1976 observations that I had forgotten about and was pleasantly reminded about. A gentler time. A simpler time. Something that with the way the word is now seems so much better. I will be reading the rest in the series. And urge you to do the same.

Second Chance

Enjoyed the book very much. It was great to go back in time, and re- live memories that I fondly remember. A clever mix of now and then. Can't wait to read the next one!.

excellent time travel novel

I love the way the author dealt with the time travel aspect, no endless complex scientific explanations (avengers endgame this isn't!) it just happens. good pacing and decent character development and a heartwarming story to boot. thoroughly enjoyed it.
