Summary

On the way home from school in 1986, Craig Pelling decided to buy a can of Coke. He wasn’t to know a seemingly innocuous visit to the local newsagent would dramatically change the course of his life.

Fast forward to his 40s, Craig finds himself trapped in a loveless marriage, earning a living in a dead-end job as the manager of an electrical store. He could have been so much more, achieved so much more.

However, fate hasn’t finished with Craig Pelling yet.

A school reunion proves to be the catalyst for chaos and decades on from his visit to that newsagent, Craig’s mundane life is turned upside down as his past comes back to haunt him.

As he plummets towards rock-bottom, all seems lost for Craig until he’s thrown a lifeline — the miraculous lifeline of a brief trip back in time to 1986. Will he be able to fix his life? Is it as simple as just reverting one decision he made over 30 years ago?

Craig is about to find out.

Brilliant as ever!

Everything! As with the Clement collection, this kept me hooked. One of the best things I’ve done was tuning into Ken Bruce’s ‘Popmaster’ quiz when Keith Pearson was a contestant. This guy CAN tell a story! Keep ‘em comin mate! 👍👍

Superb time travel story

If you enjoy your time travel stories, then I think this will become one of your favourites. It reminds me a little of Back to the Future. A person manages to go back in time and adjust the past and future for himself and family. Its not at all goofy, or silly, its a really captivating read that deserves to do well on Audible. The characters are all richly realised and their is real weight to the characters problems, and his efforts to correct what once went wrong. The 86 fix is a two partner, so I'm looking forward to reading the concluding book as soon as it is released, which I believe is within the next week or two.

I definitely recommend this book to both sci fi and fiction fans alike

Oh Craig, what have you done?!

What a great book! It reminded me a little bit of Adrian Mole and a bit of High Fidelity. Definitely worth a credit!

Loved this book

I absolutely loved this book, it made me laugh and cry. I really related to the character and am always partial to a time travel book but this brought back memories of my own childhood and grief I have dealt with in my life. On to the sequel!!

Enthralling listen

I only ever listen to audio books in my car for my long round trip to work and back but i couldn't stop listening to this one and ended up listening to large sections of it at home. Brilliantly written that means this is a story that is so easy to get lost in. Its got its upbeat moments along with some very poignant parts. The writer created a main character that for me was very likeable which made the story even more of an emotional rollercoaster.

Fun and nostalgic

What a fun listen. Lovely nostalgic listen. If you were a teen in the 80’s you can’t help but enjoy this.

Was hoping it would be better

Listened to another Keith A. Pearson book (page in your diary) and was thoroughly thrown back to my own teen days of reminisce. This was a bit like that book in concept without any of the same charm or conviction.

Pros
- Some odd throwback references did make me chuckle
- Did go through it in a couple of sittings so must have been enjoying

Cons
- do like an 80's reference but they were very clunky in my opinion. Not natural
- fair few plot holes or obvious set ups
- ending ?? what the... had i known this was so obviously set up for a 2nd book i may not have bothered. Huuuuge anti climax
- The 2nd Craig and Tessa encounter was a little bit inappropriate i think!

Enjoyable, but uncomfortable listening

Being an overweight middle age man, who spent over 20 odd years in electrical retail management, this book unnervously summed up bits of my life, even down to the Ferguson portable TV and the black ash desk.

Thought provoking if your gen X

Very interesting story with great nostalgia moments, felt like I’d lived the same life as the protagonist. Literally hit all the main beats of my life. Made me very nostalgic, and wishing the multiverse was real and travel between was possible
