Story
Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk is a novel made up of stories: 23 of them, to be precise. Twenty-three of the most horrifying, hilarious, mind-blowing, stomach-churning tales you'll ever encounter, sometimes all at once. They are told by people who have answered an ad headlined "Writers' Retreat: Abandon Your Life for Three Months", and who are led to believe that here they will leave behind all the distractions of "real life" that are keeping them from creating the masterpiece that is in them.

An autobiographical study, Down and Out in Paris and London follows Orwell as he tramps around both Paris and London. Pawning his belongings to buy food, unemployment, drinking heavily and jostling for a place in homeless hostels are but a few of the experiences related with candour and insight in this unabridged exclusive audiobook. Orwell was arguably one of the first 'gonzo' journalists.

Story
Tara Westover and her family grew up preparing for the End of Days but, according to the government, she didn’t exist. She hadn’t been registered for a birth certificate. She had no school records because she’d never set foot in a classroom, and no medical records because her father didn’t believe in hospitals. As she grew older, her father became more radical and her brother more violent. At 16, Tara knew she had to leave home. In doing so she discovered both the transformative power of education, and the price she had to pay for it.

Story
In this exquisite story of family, food, grief and endurance, Michelle Zauner proves herself far more than a dazzling singer, songwriter and guitarist. With humour and heart, she tells of growing up the only Asian American kid at her school in Eugene, Oregon; of struggling with her mother's particular high expectations of her; of a painful adolescence; of treasured months spent in her grandmother's tiny apartment in Seoul, where she and her mother would bond, late at night, over heaping plates of food.

Traumatized by the bombing of Dresden at the time he had been imprisoned, Pilgrim drifts through all events and history, sometimes deeply implicated, sometimes a witness. He is surrounded by Vonnegut's usual large cast of continuing characters (notably here the hack science fiction writer Kilgore Trout and the alien Tralfamadorians, who oversee his life and remind him constantly that there is no causation, no order, no motive to existence).

Story
It's the summer of 1990, and Crystal Beach has lost its beloved, long-running amusement park, leaving the lakeside village a virtual ghost town. It is back to this fallen community Starla Mia Martin must return to live with her overbearing mother after dropping out of university and racking up significant debt. But an economic downturn, mother-daughter drama, and Generation X disillusionment soon prove to be to be the least of Starla's troubles.
Summary
She’s a fashion model who has everything: a boyfriend, a career, a loyal best friend. But when a sudden freeway "accident" leaves her disfigured and incapable of speech, she goes from being the beautiful center of attention to being an invisible monster, so hideous that no one will acknowledge she exists. Enter Brandy Alexander, Queen Supreme, one operation away from becoming a real woman, who will teach her that reinventing yourself means erasing your past and making up something better. And that salvation hides in the last places you’ll ever want to look.

not sure what to expect, this wasn't it. but better
the story wasn't what I thought it was going to be but was fascinating and it spoke to me on several levels. there have been several moments where I wanted to reinvent myself. this story is about rebirth. revenge and theft... well shady dealings.

Came For The Panic, Stayed For The Drama
I loved ‘A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out’ by Panic! At the Disco, and I was very excited to find out that the entire album was a pseudo love letter to this book. The story can be very confusing at first, but the jump forwards and jump backwards slowly become a rhythm and style that really help shape the story overall. The compare and contrasting emotions and events from the layered story telling rarely miss and I really enjoyed the purposeful shocking reveals. My only compliant is with all untrustworthy narrators, and that I’m stuck questioning everything until the end. I think it’s worth reading twice to really enjoy all the twists and turns.

A little chatty
Pretty good for Chuck. A little chatty on the character building, we already have a good idea of who they are but more continues on, reinforcing. The story keeps you interested with the "oh what's that" teases but the reveals feel a little lackluster. it's like a mile of dangerous curves ahead signs and when you get there it's a soft sweeping on ramp. I really like the dialogue with the parents. those sections alone are masterful and worth the read.

Too many perfect coincidence
I really wanted to like this book. The narrator has a very interesting style that took me a few chapters to get used to. Once I was though I found her character style of reading to go very well with the story. That being said, I found the story itself pointless. I kept waiting for there to be some type of punch to the story and it never came. It is filled with way too many perfect coincidences for the story to have any meaning. I’ve loved his other books but just am not a fan of this. I have friends that considered this their favorite book though so you may or may not like it.
