Summary

Author of the National Book Award-winning All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy is one of the most provocative American stylists to emerge in the last century. The striking novel Blood Meridian offers an unflinching narrative of the brutality that accompanied the push west on the 1850s Texas frontier.

Critic reviews

“The authentic American apocalyptic novel…I venture that no other living American novelist, not even Pynchon, has given us a book as strong and memorable as Blood Meridian.” (Harold Bloom)
"McCarthy is a writer to be read, to be admired, and quite honestly envied." (Ralph Ellison)
"McCarthy is a born narrator, and his writing has, line by line, the stab of actuality. He is here to stay." (Robert Penn Warren)

True Grit

Classic Cormac McCarthy, gritty, no-holds barred and catalogueing a brutal frontier world completely devoid of emotion and sentimentality - not for the squeamish!

Bleak yet enthralling.

Was recommended by Jocko Wilink and glad I took up the recommendation. Fascinating book on the bleakness of 18th century Americans frontier.

Great writing, gruesome plot

McCarythy is a very talented writer but his fascination with gore, violence, and death will be too much for some readers.

Books that leave you speechless.

I will never forget this book. My wish is to live long enough to understand it. I hope to live the kind of life that refuses me that wish.
When the best story tellers are finished you keep listening, silent, as the tale goes on ringing in your soul.
Cormac McCarthy will forever remain the greatest of American writers.
Buyer beware. A brilliant darkness follows the purchase.

Just WOW!

A highly researched, tender, philosophical and blood spattered novel.

Many moments where the hairs on the back of your neck will stand on end if you prefer RomComs. You have been warned.

Good book, not for the weak hearted!

Like all McCarthy books, this is incredibly violent and graphic. It is well written and has stuck with me since I finished it. Well narrated.

Brutally thought provoking

Not the most famous of McCarthys work but definitely his best. Judge Holden makes Anton Chigurh look like a school boy in comparison.

Great Stuff

What a journey, sometimes blood drenched , sometimes poetic and philosophical. The Judge has to be one of the most memorable characters I have encountered, both Grotesque and Charismatic. Outstanding performance by Richard Poe he brings a great vibrancy to the story. Loved it.
