About this listen
Mason gives people too many chances, Hunter gives too few, but are they willing to take a chance on each other?
Mason’s always tried to believe the best in people, and for the most part, their sunshine attitude pays off. They love their friends, their family, and they’re determined to win over their broody, gorgeous coworker Hunter—especially when their car in the shop turns into carpooling to work together.
Hunter’s only seen the worst in people, and he doesn’t trust easily—not after growing up with a mom who ditched and an addict dad. However, perky, sweet, hot-as-hell Mason seems to win him over with every goofy comment or adorable smile, and before he can stop himself, he’s falling hard.
The more time Mase and Hunter spend together, the more their attraction flares until they’re both holding the hope for something real. However, when Hunter’s past collides with his present, the secret he's been keeping threatens to destroy everything—the home he established, the friends who’ve become his new family, and any chance of a future with Mason.

mm Colleagues to Lovers
We meet Mason and Hunter, plus many side characters from previous books in the series. I'm reading these books as standalone, I don't feel I've missed out, as the book is well written and describes the world-building of the Dungeon and Dragons games shop extremely well.
Well written, a story with two MCs who have so much baggage and need a lot of love and care, immensely enjoyable, we have two people who start as friends and gradually admit their feelings for one another.
Brennan Rossi's narration was a delight. His clear and distinct voice, his ability to switch between different character voices, and his knack for keeping the listener engaged made the experience truly enjoyable. I found myself speeding up the narration to 1.20 on Audible, which is my norm.

I received this audiobook for free from GRR at my request. My review is my opinion and an honest review - neither the author nor GRR influenced my opinion.

This is book 3 in this series but it can be read as a standalone. I enjoyed this one alot more than the previous book.
This was a sweet friend's to lovers story but it was also very tragic, heartwrenching and deep. I really enjoyed all the characters and the 2 MCs had great chemistry together. This was a fairly quick read at just over 4 hours and I couldn't put it down from start to finish. I really enjoyed the plot even though it was pretty solemn from start to finish. It was a slow burn with low heat and no relationship angst. I enjoyed how it ended and although it was a quick read it felt complete.
I enjoyed the world the author built of this dugeons and dragons geeky game bar. The group of friends are all great.
The narrator did a fantastic job. His voice was pleasant to listen to and he kept a good pace. He expressed all the emotions wonderfully and brought the story to life. He gave all of the characters, including side characters their own distinct voice that suited each of them perfectly so it was easy to follow the story and made it a pleasure to listen to.

Great story
Intelligence Check is a touching story. Two men who have both been affected by addiction and drug use. For Hunter it was his father and stepmother who were deep into their addiction, leaving him feeling disconnected and unworthy.
Mason lost his sister from a bad dose - it’s left him reeling. But still, he is a vibrant personality and the perfect compliment to Hunter’s more guarded one.
It’s a sweet story that is tentative and charming, and a bit of a slow burn.
I listened to the audiobook version which is performed by Brennan Rossi. It was first by them for me, which I enjoyed very much.

Absolutely amazing characters
Wonderful book. Very touching. Both Hunter and Mason's backstories were heartbreaking and I ached for them but the book was hopeful and it gave me joy to see those two happy and together and thriving. They deserve it more than anyone. I really liked them as individuals and I adored them together. They warmed my heart.
The found family theme in the book was brilliant. I just love this group of friends.
I loved the narrator. Very expressive and I liked how he voiced each character. Especially Mason.
Great story and great audiobook.

I loved Mason and Hunter!
Mason and Hunter are a wonderful couple. They fancy each other but neither of them realizes it. When the finally get together insecurities nearly tear them apart. I loved how supportive Mason was of Hunter's art and how he encouraged him to come out of his shell.
This is another great book in this series and stands alone. I didn't read them in order and never felt lost. I should mention that this is the first audiobook I've listened to narrated by Brennan Rossi and I think he did a very good job.

Mason and Hunter's story
The third book in the Dungeons and Dating series.
Hunter and Mason are struggling with issues from their past, mainly from drug and alcohol abuse in different ways.
Hunter grew up with a dad and step mother who were always drunk and/or on drugs and was many times neglected throughout his childhood. This has naturally affected him and he struggles to get close with other people.
Mason's sister died from a drug overdose 5 years ago. They have tried to repress the devastating feelings from her death but when her boyfriend and their best friend from that time, Seth, shows up, asking for a place to stay, many difficult feelings surfaces for Mason.
These 2 "damaged" souls work together and when Mason's car has to get repaired, Hunter offers them a ride to and from work. They start hanging out together even outside of work and they definitely feel attraction to each other.
This book is sweet, sad and deals with some difficult issues but it is worth listening to and of course they get their HEA in the end.
I liked Brennan Rossi's narration but I preferred Zachary Zaba's narration of Wisdom Check (book 2 in this series).

Hurt/comfort with a geeky gamer found family
* coffee shop
* nerds, geeks and gamers
* artist
* comic con
* lack of confidence
* hurt/comfort
* grief
* death of a sibling (prior to events of the book) by overdose
* addicts (side characters)
* found family
* they/them pronouns
For the most part I enjoyed this. I was concerned it was going to get mired in too much hurt and not enough comfort (at one point anything that could go wrong seemed to be happening to these two) but I found the two leads engaging enough that I ploughed through that portion of the story. I do find that this author can have a tendency to repetition, telling us things that we've already been told not once, twice, or even three times, which is infuriating.
I especially liked Hunter, a private man with amazing talent but very low self confidence. Pairing him with the more exuberant Mason worked well, although both of them have issues relatin to drugs and addiction, through side characters.
If you're looking to break into this series I'd suggest starting here. There is no knowledge of the other books required so can be read as a standalone.

Excellent
4.5 stars. A narrator I hadn't heard before but really enjoyed. The story flowed well and the character interpretation was great. The they/them pronouns sounded completely natural. While I am non-binary, I live in a country where English is not the standard language so I hadn't actually heard these pronouns used out loud. The non-binary representation is excellent. Both MCs were suffering from family using drugs, although their experiences were really different. The other characters were interesting and the Tavern found family as delightful as before.

Two special people become one adorable couple
Hunter doesn’t trust anyone. He’s been let down by the people who should’ve taken care of him. He was forced to grow up way too fast and had to do some unsavory things to survive. He’s ashamed of his past – even if he had no choice. He’s gotten out of that mess – for the most part – and has created a new life for himself. He works at Tabletop Tavern – a café where people come to play board games and stay for the camaraderie.
Mase’s life could’ve been defined by an unbearable tragedy. And maybe in some ways it has – they’ve taken what happened to their beloved sister and decided to become a substance abuse counsellor. To make ends meet while in school, they work at Tabletop Tavern. Oh, and they have a massive crush on Hunter who never seems to pay them any mind.
Until their truck breaks down and they need rides. Rides Hunter is only too happy to provide. Slowly, they start spending more time together. Get to know each other. All the while, though, their pasts are creeping up on them. Their time together at Comic Con LA gives them a reprieve and they bond. Hunter shares his hidden talent. Great, right?
Nope. Then they come home and the dung hits the fan. Things get real. And Hunter’s past is more than Mase can bear. So they split.
Now, this is a Katherine McIntyre romance…so I knew I’d get my happy ending. Man, though, did she ever put Mase and Hunter through the wringer. I have to say, the angst was pretty real in this book. In the end, though, so was the love. Brennan Rossi is a great narrator and he did a fabulous job on this book. I look forward to more books narrated by him and I’m definitely looking forward to more Tabletop Tavern books by Katherine.
