The Art of Impactful Communication is about the most important skill you can ever possess: how to clearly communicate your thoughts and feelings, and receive the same from others. It sounds simple, but then you realize that every day is filled with misunderstandings, passive-aggression, missed opportunities, and emotional outbursts. Why? Genuine communication that leads to long-lasting relationships is rare, and it’s not easy to discover the gaps that hold us back.

Story
Most people only ever rely on their conventional intelligence (IQ) to get them through life, or worse, believe it to be the best indicator for success. For years this was thought to be the case, that IQ was the most accurate predictor of a person's potential, whether it's getting a leg up in your career or simply building better relationships in business/family life. However that is no longer the case. It's now commonly known that Emotional Intelligence (EQ) has the biggest impact here.

This book is kind of mean
I'm autistic so I have been looking for audiobooks on social skills to help me better understand how neurotypical (non-autistic) people communicate so I can better my communication skills. But this book is pretty mean. There's 2 chapters telling you what a bad person you are for not being able to communicate or listen or understand people. At one point it even calls the listener a narcissist. I turned it off at that point. I know its only $5 for this audiobook, but I don't want to pay for a book that just spends the first 45 minutes (that's as far as I got) insulting the listener with really harsh words. I want a refund!

Very little usable content, repetive
This book was really geared less at telling people how to improve their people skills that to tell people lacking almost any social skills whatsoever what is wrong with them. The author mentions bad body odor at one point and the feel of the book was really one of scolding people with social skills the equivalent of B.O. He was light on anecdotes and kept things mainly theoretical, other than two main stories that were repeated many times. These stories were that of a friend who instead of just listening would try to offer advice--which he did not like, and that that of a girl at a party he referred to as "The Belief Police." The author seemed to think this was quite clever, so be prepared to be bombarded with phrases using "The Belief Police" numerous times; it's possible there was lingering resentment for the conversation he had with this named belief police he met at a party. If your social skills are normal and could use work, I doubt this is the book for you. If you need to be told that bad body odor repels people, this is probably where you should start. But be prepared to be given very little suggestions for what to do, and mostly told to stop doing the annoying things this author does not like in others.

I felt like the narrator was a close friend talking to me - things I needed to know but that no one told me
I really liked this book and I’ll be listening to it again and again. Lately, I have been struggling at work with my social skills. Patrick king reminds us that at the core of every situation every human wants the same thing: validation, acceptance, and acknowledgement (those might not be the exact words but you get the idea). I need to listen to it again to really get it to soak in. First time around about 3 percent stuck which to me, if a book sticks at all it is of value. All that he wrote is obviously from personal experience and not just him talking ABOUT it AT us.

Best one so far, imo.
This is the kind of stuff I Actually wanted from my psychology courses. Is this what communications majors learn? I should've tried that instead.
This is my favorite of the 3 that I've listened to so far. And so far they're all fairly distinct. They've all contained some different actionable information to aid your success in self-improvement and people skills. I intend to keep listening.
Narration and examples in this one were solid.

Good Content
I just realized this was the second book by Patrick King that I bought in the last week. I enjoyed his other book "Improv(e) Your Conversations" much more.
I did like the concept of the Platinum Rule in this book as opposed to the Golden Rule, and I hadn't heard about Ethos, Pathos and Logos before so I'm interested in researching that more. Also the four personality types was interesting I'll try to remember that when interacting with different people. I guess there were a couple concepts this book introduced to me, but it seemed a little simplistic. I would recommend Patrick King's other book "Improv(e) Your Conversations" first.

Not insightful or useful
Difficult to follow, unorganized, and wooden narration.
This book was a chore to get through. The narrator sounds like he's just going through the motions and trying to "get it over with". This makes for a very hard listen.
The content is just basic ideas presented along with uninspiring anecdotes. The author doesn't organize the book in a way where the ideas build upon each other, so it comes off as if he just strung a bunch of blog entries together.
The ideas are nothing new and are not presented in any novel way. There are other books that do a better job of tackling this subject.
Overall, this was a waste of money and time and I would not recommend.
