Summary

After hundreds of years of dying, you'd think I would've perfected it by now....

One moment I'm a heretical priest in the twelfth century, hunted, hated...the next, I'm waking up in the nearest corpse. Stuck in a cycle of instant reincarnation, popping back up like a tarnished penny.

Fast forward 800 years, and you might think I’ve learned a thing or two. Nope. All I've learned is how to die far too easily, far too often.

Now my territory in the South of France is under threat and I find myself trapped by impossible angel-made runes. If the angels have gone full red lightsaber evil, it might not only be my territory in danger, but the whole of reality itself....

I need to stop whoever is behind this, and now. After all, you can’t come back to life, if there’s nothing left to come back to.

imPerfect Magic is the first book in The imPerfect Cathar series, a darkly funny supernatural suspense following a trio of immortal heretics. If you can't wisecrack while death is on the line? Well...perhaps you're not dying right.

This book contains strong language, dark humor, and graphic violence.

Disliked the narration

This was one of those books where I wanted to enjoy the story, the plot was an excellent idea, and the history, myths and pop culture references really appealed to me, but in the end I only finished it because I am not a quitter.

Sorry, but this narration and writing style do not appeal to me, and I will not be continuing with this series.

Fun, fresh and a little bit Freaky

Loved this book. Intense, but still entertaining fantasy with some folklore and history I'd never known about. Can't wait for more of this series.
Also, the author made a great narrator. You can tell he's really passionate about his material.

Outstanding urban fantasy with a historical twist.

I was lured in to this book by Facebook ads likening it to Pratchett and Gaiman.

Definitely more of the latter than the former for me.

A fantastic story set across centuries with a twist you probably won't see coming. I thought I'd worked it out, but was neatly misdirected!

I've now listened to four books in the series and am excited to get to the rest.

heartily recommended

Brilliant!

Not only well written, but incredibly well narrated too. I really enjoyed this. It's the first time I've ever left a review, I don't usually bother, but this audiobook was one of the best (if not the best) I've ever heard. well done! just downloaded the next 1 as the first one was ending!

Poor narration.

The narration was garbled, difficult and badly paced. I couldn't get past the first chapter. Perhaps I'll try the book instead.

Brilliant read

Great storyline, loved the characters, in fact loved everything about this book and will be getting the next one asap. The fact the author is narrating gives you an interesting perspective of how they would like you to see their characters and I can see this series developing into one of my favs

Disappointing

I ordered this book as it was compared to Terry Pratchett. However, I found this book wanting when compared to him. There was no word play, commentary on the 'real' world or interesting world creation.
By itself, the story was interesting enough, although the main character wasn't endearing to me. The tone of the book was trying to be self-deprecating, but missed the humor of the Dresden Files or Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
I found the reading style of the author to be grating as he adds a lot of (unnecesary) stops within sentences.
Overall an alright book, but as I had been promised a book series similar to Terry Pratchett's, I was disappointed.
