Summary

Somewhere on the coast of England, Neverbury a little quaint seaside town with the kind of problems that a lot of quaint little English seaside towns have these days...demons, serial killers, immortals, thieves, time travellers, ghosts, vampires, haunted houses, witches, an extraordinarily strident village council, and monsters.

Welcome to Neverbury is a collection of interconnected short stories set in the fictional town of Neverbury, perfect for fans of Black Mirror, Stranger Things, or Inside No. 9.

Great stories, loved the twists and narration.

I loved these short stories, great to dip in and out of. You can really picture the scene, and the narration was great. Loved the humour in it too. Loved the unexpected twists, never knew what to expect next! Neverbury sounds like a fascinating place.

Superb dark comedy, beautifully read

I'd never heard of Chris Lynch, but what he's created here is a set of short stories that create a distinct atmosphere around the seaside village of Neverbury. From serial killing postmen to creepy supernatural shenanigans in toyshops, warring charity shops, fishermen who feed the local kraken, Neverbury has deeply creepy things round every corner.

Some of the stories land heavier on the horror than the comedy, but the writing has a cleverness of construction that makes it a fast listen that leaves you wanting to RETURN to Neverbury once you're done.

Terry Cooper on reading duties here has a fluidity and a lovely dark quality in his voice, that balances the creepiness and the complex comic writing, and likewise makes you want more Cooper reads in your life. One of my top 5 listens of 2023, I'll be going back to Neverbury time and time again.

Come once to Neverbury, and you'll be coming back too.

so so

some OK stories but nothing to seriously creep you out. OK if you don't prefer something really dark
