Summary

Can you call someone an enemy if you haven’t seen them for the better part of a decade?

Deacon Black is perfectly content with the status quo - work, sleep, repeat. Who cares if he’s rigid, structured, and set in his ways?
It’s a job requirement that keeps his men safe and his company’s doors open.

One phone call is all it takes to upend his life and land him right back into a past he has tried to forget.

Revisiting old ghosts is the last thing he needs.

Especially when the forced trip down memory lane includes the only woman he never wanted to see again.

Annalise Grimaldi hit the jackpot with her life - from her trust fund to her best friend, she has it all.

But her world comes crashing to a halt when her best friend vanishes - leaving behind an apartment in tatters and more questions than answers.

There’s only one person she can think of that can help in a situation like this.

She hates to make the call, but there isn’t a thing she wouldn’t do to make sure her friend is found.

Even setting aside her hatred for Deacon Black.

Good book

A good start to a new series, I’ve not read this author before. Enjoyed the audible but it was not the best female voice I’ve ever heard. Enjoyable book and story tho

Hellz Yeah!

First of all..Jacob Morgan!!! That man can read the dictionary to me and I would be happy.

I read this book when it first came out but let me tell you, the audio book was fantastic.

Deacon Black, owner of Blackbridge Security, gets a call from the past. His ex-wife's BFF, Anna, calls Deacon for help as she thinks that Dani, the ex, may be dead as there are cops all over Dani's condo and blood everywhere.

Totally binge worthy.

My Thoughts on Hostile Territory

Hostile Territory is the first story in a new series by Marie James. I was looking forward to trying something new when I heard about it despite how much I love her Cerberus series. The leading man for this one was actually introduced in that series but I loved getting to know him better in this book.

I actually just loved him in general. He might have been a bit rough and gruff but he was ultimately a good guy. Not many would bother looking for their ex-wife after the way she treated him. But it was just one of many signs of his goodness.

Anna took a bit longer for me to connect with. She had many things that I liked, but every now and then I thought she might be a bit shallow. However the more the story continued I warmed up to her.

I also loved Deacon's men. I am so excited for them all to get their own stories and I plan to devour them all.

The narrators for this were absolute perfection though. Jacob Morgan and Callie Dalton knocked it out of the park. I loved the different tones for all the characters, even Puff Daddy had his own unique voice and I loved it. I hope they continue to give voice to this series.

Just okay

I wanted more. The chemistry was lacking. The female lead was so off putting and I couldn’t relate. Callie is new to me and I’m still not sure about how I feel about her performance. Jacob was a dream as always.

Hard to tolerate Ana

2 hours in and I am having trouble listening. Ana is too shallow, not good.

Couldn't finish

I really tried to listen to this but had to stop it. I LOVE BOTH NARRATOR'S but I just didn't like the female character at all. I get there's people that are rich spoil brats but damn really? nah I'll pass. I'm not going to give any spoilers because I feel that maybe the female character does grow in this book and I don't want to mess it up for someone else.

Freakin fantastic!!

I seriously loved the book when I read it but this was so much better! Deacon and Anna have a serious love/hate relationship, but that made the story sooo much better. But the scene stealer was Puff Daddy!! Jacob Morgan and Callie Dalton did an incredible job with the narrative. Each voice was distinct!

Hostile Territory

I was absolutely blown away by this one. I could not stop listening till the very end at 6am in the morning. Marie James put some twist and turns into this one. I can’t wait to grab the next one. So happy listening or reading. Which ever you choose.

Meh

Story is hyper focused on the erotic tension between Anna and Deacon as opposed to the actual mystery of Danny’s disappearance which I found to be irritating. Very erotic and typical ending to this story. If you like romance novels, this is for you… I was just hoping for more of a mystery plot, or a better plot in general.
