We strive for success, but we are rarely happy. The more we try to win - putting on a brave face for work or family - the more we risk losing ourselves. And even reaching our goals can feel strangely hollow. The culprit? Fear. It makes us anxious, or shameful, or turns us into perfectionists. We pretend to be someone else while aiming for a status that’s never truly satisfying. There is another way. A way to find our true voice, to win on our own terms.

We often conflate happiness with success, but over the course of his career, GP and best-selling author, Dr Rangan Chatterjee has seen first-hand how this misunderstanding of happiness is actually damaging our health. Research has shown that poor mental health has a direct impact on our overall health and, in fact, 90 per cent of GP visits are due to stress. In his latest book, Happy Mind, Happy Life, he shows how making small changes to our mindset is the secret to feeling both happier and healthier.
With 10 simple tools that have changed the lives of his patients, from eliminating choice to giving yourself away, the life-changing advice in this book will help you reconnect with yourself, feel more fulfilled and discover what happiness is for you.

Thank you
I have been so sad depressed and generally overwhelmed in my life with so many situations. I have a wonderful husband snd four sons and absolutely no reason as the GP once told me to be ‘sad’.
Listening to your book has given me so much food for thought it truly has been an inspiration to me . I am very much a people pleaser and have always been . This has left me exhausted and unhappy . That is because I was out of alignment with my core values . I have deleted my Facebook app and have already put changes in place . I lost my father last year suddenly and in a terrifying way . This has made me evaluate my life and I need to make all the changes because I am struggling with grief .
Thank you so much

National Treasure
In my opinion Rangan is a National Treasure and the work he puts out is so valuable to everyone who reads or listens. Whilst his books are very consistent, they each come at health from a different angle. So far I have really enjoyed hearing about Rangan’s background and his parents story about emigrating to the UK. His observations about what they gained and lost in doing so are fascinating. His points about modern humans detachment from nature, natural activities and social set ups, and how this can make us unhappy resonated deeply with me. This is in line with my own thinking and whenever I find ways to integrate more natural ways of living into my life the better I feel, even though this is often opposed to much of the rest of society. I can wait to listen on, but thanks Rangan once more for your work and insight. Oh and one last thing the narration is superb as you would expect.

A clear and simple guide to enhancing happiness
I'm a great fan of Rangan's podcasts and he's on my carefully curated list of podcasts that I listen to on a weekly basis (I've got 3 of them to eliminate the waste of time and energy lost on 'choosing') . The book in itself is a great way of initiating self-reflection and assessment of where we are at in our own lives to be able to improve our happiness level. I love the fact that Rangan doesn't hesitate to show his own vulnerabilities and share his personal experiences and he doesn't come across as I have the key to happiness and I've reached my goal. If you listen to his podcasts (and this book), you'll quickly realise that he himself in on his own personal journey and all he is doing is sharing the knowledge he has acquired along the way through the various interactions and experiences he has had in the hope that we, as listeners/ readers can hopefully try to put some of that into practice.
Personally, I have found the 3 legged-stool concept interesting ( it also ties in well with the concept of 5-a-day for happiness). But most specifically, I needed to hear how the concept of 'alignment' correlates to happiness. He encouraged me to re-think and be aware of my 3 core values ( I've found that I had changed...and maybe lost myself along the way) and I now have them at the forefront of my mind and I'm going to try my best to live them in my everyday life.
There are loads of very practical and helpful tips in the book- it all depends on what your needs are at this point in time. I found the Social Gym exercise intriguing and I have now created a google sheet to fill in and try the experiment over the coming weeks. I will no doubt struggle to change the anti-heroes into heroes but I am going to give it my best shot.
Also, the references to specific podcasts is very helpful because many of the subjects he touches on are much deeper than the book allows space for. So it's wonderful to be able to know that for example, if you're feeling intrigued by the idea of journaling there is actually a whole podcast devoted to the subject.
All in all, I loved the book and wolfed it down ... but like any self-development book, it's one of those that I intend to read over and over again. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did!

Best one yet!
I really enjoy listening to Dr Chattergee. He has a really easy to listen to voice and while obviously enthusiastic about his work, never over eggs it on presentation. I enjoy his non patronising style, his can-do attitude and the fact everything he says makes so much sense.
The weekly pods have opened up the whole health sphere to me which is fascinating and insightful, but I think even those who aren’t really turned on to ‘health’ could get a lot from this book. It feels like it’s granting permissions to do the simple things in life that actually really matter to us all.
Best book yet.
Can’t wait for the next!

A collection of inspirational wisdom
Wonderful. As an avid listener of Dr Chatterjees podcasts and books, I felt this was a super way to recap or revisit of some of the most important aspects of wellbeing topics. There is a deeper wisdom that comes through with this book though, it challenges the normal phrasing or perceptions of how we might strive to consider happiness and wellbeing. I really love it. Thank you.
