About this listen

Everyone likes Humaira "Hani" Khan - she’s easygoing and one of the most popular girls at school. But when she comes out to her friends as bisexual, they invalidate her identity, saying she can’t be bi if she’s only dated guys. Panicked, Hani blurts out that she’s in a relationship...with a girl her friends absolutely hate - Ishita "Ishu" Dey. Ishu is the complete opposite of Hani. She’s an academic overachiever who hopes that becoming head girl will set her on the right track for college. But Ishita agrees to help Hani, if Hani will help her become more popular so that she stands a chance of being elected head girl.

Despite their mutually beneficial pact, they start developing real feelings for each other. But relationships are complicated, and some people will do anything to stop two Bengali girls from achieving happily ever after.

Bi rep 10/10, lovely story

Adiba writes about bi characters in a way that makes us feel validated and vindicated. Her characters are complex and their sexualities manifest in diverse ways. I absolutely enjoyed the dynamic between the couple in this story. Performance of the book was fantastic.

Good representation but bit basic

A bit of a basic storyline but I stayed for the bi representation. Wished the narration was a bit more in depth, like actually unpacked the emotions they were feeling rather than just saying “I felt sad all of a sudden and i didn’t know why”. But I loved the bi representation in the south Asian community

My new favourite author!!

I loved this so much! I was so excited for this after reading and loving The Henna Wars, and this definitely did not dissapoint! Adiba Jaigirdar is easily one of my new favourite Uthors and I cannot wait to see what she releases next ❤️

Solid story with great performance

Contained a lot more of issues, with homophobia, Islamophobia and bad parents, than it did of romance really, but I quite enjoyed it.

Perfect coming of age queer romance

This is one of the first books I’ve felt compelled to finish in such a short amount of time! I love the story of these two Bengali girls learning to navigate their life of fake dating and all of the drama and romance that follows them through. I’d highly recommend to anyone looking for a sweet and soft romance book.

enjoyable

very good story, narrator over-enunciates slightly but not bad, still enjoyed it just wanted them to speed up at times.

Good book but theres better

I liked the book then plot was kinda basic no twists or tension really.
If your looking for a more younger based gxg book then this book is good for you.
Books i would recommend over buying this one
Is "she too pretty to burn" and "who i was with her" both great gxg i capture the struggles of being a queer teen. (more so the second book)

An enjoyable listen

thoroughly enjoyed this book! both narrators were great, the narrator for ishu's parts took a bit to get used to but by the end her voice had grown on me, recommend giving this a listen!
