Horrific choice for British adults
What would have made A Different Blue better?
Erm, where do I start?! The opening is weak. Is it written for teenager/tweenagers? The grammar is poor. The British English is appalling "We call books scrummy"...er, we do?! O_o The audio accent of the British character wanes between posh American, London, Yorkshire and Irish. Requesting a refund immediately.
What will your next listen be?
The Silkworm by Robert Galbraithe.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The British accent - a central character to the story - wasn't authentic.
What character would you cut from A Different Blue?
For a schoolgirl, 'Blue Echohawk' is far too self-aware - "I was a slut."..."I didn't like the idea of anyone seeing my private parts" - What? This doesn't even make sense.
Any additional comments?
Author needs to take this one back to the drawing board...or the bin (or is that wastepaper bin?!). Just because you know British English expressions, such as 'Bob's your Uncle...', you can't just chuck them around without context. Perhaps having a British person read your work before you commit it to the publisher would help.

Yes I would. Lovely story, plus the narrator is terrific in performing. Very touching

A lot. I laughed, had lump in my throat few times, and tears in my eyes. It was moving and very emotional and felt like I was in it.

A wonderful story. Learn some differences between American and British English, contrast between the cultures. Very authentic. Tavia's performance gave a massive boost and made it perfect.

A Different Blue - my number one book ever!!!!
Would you listen to A Different Blue again? Why?
Wow! Where do I start. It is difficult to review a book like this without spoiling it for others.
A Different Blue is a story with so many layers. We meet Blue as a twenty year old working her way through her graduation year of school. Her life takes a massive change when Darcy Wilson, a young history professor, comes into her life. His take on history - how it moulds who we are and where we going, forces Blue to confront her own past and future.
Would I listen to A Different Blue again? This book is awe inspiring and I know I will listen to it again and again.
Who was your favorite character and why?
We all remember that special teacher at school - the one who made learning seem worth while - the one who made a difference. Darcy Wilson was that person and more. For Blue he was the one who made it all make sense.
What about Tavia Gilbert’s performance did you like?
I have listened to other books narrated by Tavia Gilbert and I think this was on of her best, although I do think she could work on her British accent.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I did have an extreme reaction to this book. A Different Blue ran the full gambit of emotions. Without spoiling it for others this is a book that will leave your heart full whist at the same time giving your emotions a heavy going over.

This is a story that can be read by old and young adults. Each of us will take something different from it. Amy Harmon has has bravely written a story that that confronts some of society's saddest and happiest events. Well worth the credit.

Completely Gratifying.
I entirely love this book. The performance was moderately annoying because the narrator performed Manny and Wilson in such a way that was exaggerated and grating. Wilson sounded like Angela Lansbury. Performance aside, I loved Blue. her story was real and touching and I found myself right inside her shoes with her. I hated to end this story. Amy is a 5 star author every single time.

Blue and You...a good combination
I am an unabashed Amy Harmon fan. I read this book when it first came out on Kindle and loved it. As with most books I really really like, the audio book is a means to hear it (of course) which allows a difference resonance and depth than written. Ms Harmon has such a great writer's voice that captures in great depth and power the intensity, struggle and consequences of actions taken or actions not taken. Blue Echohawk is a study in contradictions--belonging yet not belonging; young yet old; needy yet fiercely independent; private yet attention-seeking. And, she is immensely talented and strong. This is her coming of age book which details with all the vivid shades that Blue is how she fills a destiny and falls in mature and deep love. My advice is to read this book if that's available to you and THEN listen to it. You won't be sorry AT ALL as it is such a sweet story of a culture forgotten and a magical girl who brings it back to life.

I don't think I've read another book that touches on these same issues. She covers a couple of doozies.

I will try to keep spoilers out. I was kind of upset that the authors touched on big subjects but nothing came of it. When the protagonist finds out what her bf's brother did to a young girl, she does nothing about. She just walks away. She tells no one or even lets him know he has been found out or does wrong. He completely gets away with it. That left a bad taste in my mouth.

Favorite story, favorite characters
I loved this intelligent perceptive book with characters who were both likable and memorable. I'm impressed by an author who can write a main male character like this one. He was smart, handsome, down to earth, warm, understanding, and most of all, wise. I liked the story as much as the characters, with the pieces of the story coming together in a way that I would never have imagined.The narrator was unbelievably good and her portrayal of the leading male character was nothing short of inspired. This book is one of my favorites.

absolutes wonderful and entertaining.
The author is a gifted writer. she provides a steady flow of entertainment. deep sweet romantic love story. Great example of the strength of the human spirit.

Loss, Growth and Love
It is rare that I write reviews but this book warranted one. It was an emotional rollercoaster but at the same time it was beautiful. I cried with blue and I loved seeing her grow through out the story and learn to love and open herself up to it. The narrator brought the story to life, she did an amazing job. This is a worthwhile read. It is a story that resonated with me and I am so glad I gave this book a try.

Heart warming
What a lovely story. Well written and thought provoking. A beautiful love story without constant sex. Had to cry a few times. Just couldn't set it down.

Lovely, heart-felt story
“Regret is just life's aftertaste.”
This was a lovely, heart-felt story about Blue's discovery of who she really is. There wasn't a moment during her journey that I wasn't fully invested in what I was listening to.
The narrator brought this story to life with her amazing British, Spanish and Native American voices. The overall quality of her voice is almost melodious. It rings with clarity and intent.
I don't usually listen to contemporary stories on audio and this one was a bit of a risk for me. I'm happy to say that it exceeded my expectations and I still think about certain parts of this book-the humor and heartache, often. It's one of those stories that lingers long after you've stopped listening.
