Summary

I'm not all that special, really. I'm sure there are a lot of girls with old gypsy blood who see the dead, have killer cults hunting their family, and turn into something that gets scary when they panic. Yep. I'm just an ordinary girl. I wish people would believe that.

I've been labeled as one thing or another for most of my life: Death Girl. Crazy Gypsy Girl. Gothic Chick. Monster.

It took my mother's death for me to finally start getting answers about what's really been going on. Unfortunately, most of the answers come from men . . . who aren't just men. Somehow, I've gone and landed myself in a world truly filled with monsters, and I'm starting to think this is where I should have been all along.

Only . . . I don't understand what's going on. I'm walking into the middle of a story that's thousands of years old, and I'm the new girl on the block who doesn't have a clue how this world even works. My only guides happen to be the most lethal of the bunch.

I've gone and drawn attention to myself, and the ones paying attention are the ones everyone else seems to fear. How do these things always happen to me?

Contains mature themes.

Paranormal Reverse Harem

I’ve had this series a while and I have no idea why I haven’t listened sooner . Violet is new in town she’s taken over from her mother who was murdered but she’s also lying about who and what she is , she also has a ghost tied to her who suffers from lack of brain to mouth filter that caused many a laugh out loud moments.

Slow burn reverse harem

Monster love story.
A gypsy girl moves to town and meets monster guys.
Add an insane ghost BFF.
And there you have it.
An entertaining read or listen.
It’s more of part 1 of a really long book rather than a stand alone, you really need to have time for it.

Fantastic Story

I've loved every minute of listening to this book. Kristy Cunning is a talented author who writes a really great story, that is read well. I can't wait to listen to the next book in the series to see what happens next.

Disappointed

Reviews suggested a great read, but I gave found the plot seems all over the place. I am at chapter 17 and I am still not sure where it is going or the purpose of the potty mouthed ghost? The male narrator's style is a quite contrived staccato and detracts from the story. I am not usually harsh as distinguishing between characters and using accents is difficult to achieve effectively. That said think William Shatner as Captain Kirk faking a Cockney accent.

I will stick with the book to the bitter end and will update this review if it improves.

Let me explain . . .

I feel in love with this book, and the series, way more quick than anyone should fall in love with anything. I am addicted and already dread the inevitable detox .

Dissapointing

I've read the book and thought it was laugh out loud funny. Sadly the narration is dull and I gave up listening after 15 mins.

Dull and poorly read

I ended up returning this one without even finishing it. The male reader is particularly dreadful at accents and the story was too dull to hold my attention enough to put up with it.

I absolutely loved this book!! Kristy Cunning is unbelievably talented and I’ve been dying to listen to this book!! The narrators were brilliant too. Waiting for book two is going to kill me. Everyone needs to listen to this book!!

couldnt finish

although I find this book interesting, I couldnt get past the narrator's. the female was ok I've listened to books by her before but the Male voice was too much. I couldnt really distinguish who was talking when he was reading..like which character. the female had no accent for them and I hate that. if one has an accent so should the other. I'll go physically read the book because I was about 9 chapters in and I'd like to see what happens but definitely cant deal with listening to it.

Yes! Yes! Yes!

I love this series. Like, I want to have babies with it and buy it gifts just so it knows how special it is. These books are on my reread list because they are so fantastic and the audible is another way to enjoy. Do yourself a favor and read/listen to them all ASAP.

Great start to a great series.

I love this story but I do not care for the guy narrator. It is too much. There is so many pauses and weird exclamations of phrases.

No spoilers

I've listened to book 1 and 2 so far. At first I had trouble getting into this book I think it was the narration Morgan was fantastic but Grindell took some getting used to. Cunning/Owen always writes a good story but this one starts slow very slow for me it took me towards the end to fully get into it but I stuck with it and ended up loving the book and even came to really like Grindell. This story is complex the information you get is very much needed. My advice is to stick with it because it takes off and you won't want to stop listening. This story is not a standalone. So be ready. This series is going to be fantastic in true Cunning/Owen fashion.

Phenomenal

I absolutely LOVED this audio book. The performance was extremely well done and was very pleasantly surprised as this is the first audiobook that I am aware of by Kristy Cunning. I was amazed at how the narrators captured the tone of what the characters were feeling. I am extremely excited about being able to listen to the other books that this author has come out with as I will probably end up getting them all!

Fantastic!

Gah! I've been following these books as they've come out hoping for the day they might hit audio. The story is fantastic, unique, and thrilling. A wonderful mixture of classic horror stories, with a sense of humor that beats all others in my book. Twisted and delightful. I eagerly await the rest on audio!

Fucking Hysterical

ok so at first with the male voices it was hard to tell them apart but I got use to it. After that I really loved listening and that fucking ghost had me snorting out loud at work. like she is a 2yr old with a dirty mind and just blurts shit out. I really loved the book and characters I was unsure at first but I'm glad I listened to this. I wish I had a ghost like Anna.

horrible male narration

while the storyline and female narrator were both promising, the male narration with brittish accent was so off putting I could not get through the book.

Great book, meh performance

I adore this book series and was excited to see the audiobooks getting released. While both the readers have good voices their reading styles grate on the nerves a bit and clearly neither are big fans of the book because they don't follow the cadence of the writing. I don't begrudge the credit I spent, but this isn't an ab I'll be listening to over and over. The books I've read a dozen times and recommend them highly in that format.
