Summary

An unusual girl. An enigmatic man. An ancient castle. What could go wrong?

An outcast her entire life, Corvina Clemm is left adrift after losing her mother. When she receives the admission letter from the mysterious University of Verenmore, she accepts it as a sign from the universe. The last thing she expects though is an olden, secluded castle on top of a mountain riddled with secrets, deceit, and death.

An enigma his entire life, Vad Deverell likes being a closed book while knowing exactly everything that happens in the university. A part-time professor working on his thesis, Vad has been around long enough to know the dangers the castle possesses. The moment he crosses paths with Corvina, he knows she is a danger to everything that he is.

They shouldn't have caught each other's eye. They cannot be. But a chill-inducing century-old mystery forces them to collide. People have disappeared every five years for over a hundred years. Corvina is getting clues to unravel it all, and Vad needs to keep an eye on her.

So begins a tale of the mystique, the morbid, the macabre, and a deep love that blossoms in the unlikeliest of places.

AWFUL !

This was an uncomfortable listen amazed to have finished it full of erotic padding with consistent use of obscenity the F—k word to finish most sentences. Hardly any feasible plot. If this is erotic fiction will not read another!

Why on earth didn’t Aiden narrate Vad’s voice!

I’m undecided if the story was truly uninspired, or if it was just ruined by Scarlett making 28 year old Vad sound 78 and on his death bed!

V(l)ad and a little crow

The romance between Vad and Corvina is so fiercely passionate and thrilling. At first, I wasn't convinced Vad could be anything but evil and controlling. Corvina's fascination with him was almost confusing. But the more the story developed, the more I fell in love with both characters. But the mystery stays unanswered. Will another book answer the questions we are all wondering?

Dark academia meets dark romance and meets spooky.
Loved it so much.

Not a dual novel

The male voice is why I read this book and he read very little and the female narrator had a horrible male voice.

Amazing!!!

This book deserves all the freaking stars and so much more!!

I read the book first and then listened to the audiobook when it when live and both are equally fantastic. RuNyx has blown my mind away with this modern gothic dark academia romance, the mystery, the unknown, the forbidden age gap romance and all the dark and gothic settings and vibes made this book one of my top read this year. There is absolutely nothing I didn't like about this book.

Corvina is a young woman that has been isolated for most of her life. Her unique upbringings makes her a mysterious and intriguing character. She knows she is different and so when an opportunity is presented to her to attend a Verenmore University she decides she needs a fresh start, somewhere when no ones knows about her past. What she gets instead is so much more following inexplicable events, suspense and questions about her sanity but it also comes with her meeting professor Vad Deverell, a man that will completely change her life.

Vad is also another mysterious character with so many secrets and his own agenda to keep his real identity a secret. But there is nothing I don't love about him, read and you'll see what I'm taking about.

Corvina and Vad's chemistry is intense and all consuming, their sensual tension will burn the pages of your kindle, they are some steam scenes that live freely through my mind rent free lol.

Wanted to give 5 stars

Really wanted to get five stars but I felt a bit misled that Aiden Snow only narrated a couple of minutes of the entire book. However, I loved the story. It was very steamy and suspenseful.

5 I am your madness STARS

I read this when it came out but the audio makes it even better! It’s an age gap and a student teacher romance. It’s also so much more than that. It has spooky vibes and the school has a string of mysterious disappearances. Vad is a j/p hero and an alpha male. Corvina is a little strange but she’s also caring. There is twists at the end you won’t see coming. There are a few triggers including mental illness but I wouldn’t consider this a dark book.

Narration was great!

A ride I didn’t want to end!

This book was like a rollercoaster ride I didn’t want to end. This ride was intense, mysterious and passionate. 5/5 would recommend if you’re looking for a great dark academia - dark romance, this is a ride you’ll enjoy.

absolutely not

I really enjoyed the set up of this world and the plot, the vibe was so fun and dark. But, grammar was poor and word usage (i.e. "imagined in her imagination") was extremely repetitive. The relationship development was so fast and then stagnated. One of the major plot points was never even answered. This book had a ton of potential but felt more like the author read Wings of Ruin and decided that would make them more money. Also fairly predictable, just saying.

Ok

Interesting story but simple writing. Actor and actress are nice but it feels like they’re not being their true self. The female actress imitating a voice for the male lines is a bit comical.

Loved it

This story was great. It reminds me of Shutter Island a little but with spice. Kept me on the edge of my seat. The narration was also fantastic.

Highly recommend for romance with a twist

I wish this book had been longer. It was sad to have it end because I haven't enjoyed something this much in a while. I find it hard to compete with the romance in ACOTAR, but this was a wonderful dark romance that leaves you with all the feels. It is suspenseful and has a well written mystery while still being steamy in parts.
