Summary

Going Dark is the debut crime thriller from former covert specialist Detective Sergeant Neil Lancaster.

Tom Novak is a troubled soul with a dark and bloody past. A former refugee, Royal Marine and member of the elite Special Reconnaissance Regiment, he now finds himself struggling with the deadening routine of day-to-day policing. When he is deployed undercover to infiltrate a gang of people traffickers, things go badly wrong. Faced with an impossible choice, his cover is blown, and he finds himself on the run from the Serbian mafia and even his fellow police colleagues. With no-one to trust, and his enemies using all the resources of the state against him, Tom has only one option: to Go Dark.

Terrible narration

The most stilted, broken and oddly syncopated narration I've ever listened to. It is like somebody put the words together using different clips and forgot there was a story to tell. I am really disappointed as I the story looks amazing!

Just couldn’t connect

Thought I’d give this a listen, but found the narrators style a tad bizarre and the authors writing style way too descriptive which made it difficult to get any flow going.

A real disappointment for me that I cut short.

Clearly knows his stuff

Enjoyable and from a former NSY DS, accurate in practically every detail. You will enjoy this if stories about ex-SF turned Cop appeals to you like it does to me. I liked the main character, he was believable, not to super human and had a few flaws which made him personable. A good read for sure

An excellent debut

I’d not heard of the author but the book was recommended to me so I downloaded it and am glad I did. The plot is well thought out and has a few interesting twists and turns. The characters are well developed and the range of voices used by the narrator are superb, he manages to avoid the trap that a lot of readers fall into whereby when narrating East European characters they sound like extras from the Borat movie. The suspense builds up to a high adrenaline climax which left me heading straight to the audible catalogue for more by the same author.

Everyone was too good!

although I enjoyed it , it did seem a little far fetched - at every stage he met just the right contact with just the right equipment at just the right time . I didn't feel any real jeopardy- if something went wrong he spotted the trap , overpowered the baddies and barely broke sweat . Unique special forces assassins popping up to save his skin , nodding knowingly and disappearing conveniently with the bodies .I was more concerned for the health of James Bond fighting the rubber alligator

Fabulous new author!

Great book - can’t wait for the next instalment. Good twists and turns from an author who knows his subject. Good to get SRR into a book too...

Better than Reacher

Absolutely brilliant. There are more twists and turns than you could imagine. This thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat for hours. More of the same please Mr Neil Lancaster.

Great story, tension sometimes diminished by accents

This is a great story, full of tension and action but why don’t he narrators need to adopt such dreadful accents is beyond me. Embarrassing effort to make the German character sound German, made her sound like someone from the someday series Allo Allo.
