Story
It’s time for a childbirth revolution. Childbirth has always been, and always will be, a significant rite of passage that transforms a woman into a mother. However, the modern approach to maternity care fails women, families, and care providers with outdated practices that center the needs of institutions rather than individuals. In this audiobook, Rachel Reed demonstrates how childbirth can be reclaimed to center women and support birth physiology.

A must for all pregnant people and their support person
- By Stephen on 06-12-17
Summary
As featured on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 5 Live Selected as one of the Independent’s 10 best pregnancy books for expectant parents.
Birth is a feminist issue. It’s the feminist issue nobody’s talking about.
For too long women have been told, ‘a healthy baby is all that matters’. This book dares to say women matter too.
Finally blasting the feminist spotlight into the labour ward, Milli Hill encourages women everywhere to stand and deliver, insisting that birth is no longer left off the list in discussions about female power, control and agency.
From the importance of birth plans to your human rights in childbirth, and including birth stories from women across the world, this call-to-arms will help you find your voice, take an active role in your choices, and change the way you think about childbirth.
PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

Totally one sided
Feminism should be about choice. This book basically starts talking about choice but very one sidedly makes you feel guilty for wanting anything other than a natural birth without medical intervention unless the baby is in danger.

DANGEROUS BOOK
As someone terrified of giving birth I thought this book would empower me.
This book is very pro natural birth and home birth, and saying no to doctors advice or requests. Some of these stories about women turning down medical advice (for example a previous c section patient with a breech baby wanting a vaginal birth and ignoring doctors concerns). This is dangerous and can result in rupture of uterus and possible death.
The author does not take into account the risks of declining medical advice and examinations. Yes, it's important every woman has a choice, just like what I want for my own labour. But her words are dangerous and please don't listen to seriously to this. Your choices and your birth plan is important, but you also need to listen to medical advice to ensure you have the best and healthiest care available.

Not great if you are looking for reassurance!
I found this to be more of a political piece, than a book for new Mothers or Fathers to be. Really interesting and important, but not if you want reassurance on the birthing and labour process. However, the main point which I took away from this is that you can be in control of your birth and don't HAVE to do anything you don't want...although for me, I trust the medical professionals to know what is best for my baby and my baby's health will always come first.

Exceptional and inspiring, I loved it!
Milli, this book is everything women need to know when considering pregnancy or if they are pregnant. This book will hopefully empower women to know and to embrace their right to bodily autonomy in the birth room and without fear...as Milli passionately tells the reader, you are most certainly 'not a vessel'! Give Birth like a Feminist would be my first choice as a mother and a midwife to give my daughter if or when she was considering becoming a mother herself!

Recommended reading for all birth professionals
This book says it how it is...advocating an approach to maternity care that includes putting control over our bodies right back where it should be ... with women.
As a midwife I see all to often the damage not being in control does ... the loss of self belief and the impact on parents is immense.
Understanding the history of birth allows to appreciate how the current situation has evolved and the analogies with #metoo should focus the minds of all maternity staff to make real changes wherever they can.

Great resource to make informed decisions
From my experience with most feminist groups when addressing pregnancy and birth I was a bit skeptical and hopeful at the same time when I found this book. The way it is written and how it addresses the subject presents information in a way that makes it easy to understand what is happening, why some things are the way they are, why they should change and how it is, indeed, a subject that must be included in the feminist agenda as part of women's rights which are human rights.
