About this listen
Enter an addictive world of sizzlingly hot paranormal romance . . .
..................
Only a few are brave enough to fall . . .
When Raini desperately needed help, she went to the one person who she knew could save her dying friend . . . her secretive and ruthlessly powerful anchor, Maddox. His price was that she grant him access to her life, yet he's still determined not to form the anchor bond with Raini. That rejection stings, even while she can't stop her body - or her demon - reacting to his presence.
Maddox is a descendent, a rare breed of demon possessing angelic blood - and Raini knows he'll let someone close when hell freezes over. As a succubus, she's used to men wanting her uncontrollably - and used to having all the power. But while Maddox wants her strictly on his own terms, for the first time she can remember Raini's struggling to keep her own emotions in check.
Yet when someone - or something - starts to target Raini, Maddox's protectiveness goes into overdrive. Suddenly he's finding it harder to keep his secrets and his distance, for nothing seems to matter as much as Raini. As the threat escalates into all-out war, they both have to decide: can they trust the other to catch them if they fall?
The next sizzling paranormal romance in Suzanne Wright's globally bestselling The Dark in You series.

Gripping!
I had been looking forward to Rainey and Maddox’s story for ages and it was just as good as I’d hoped for! There is plenty of humour, action and steamy chemistry along with an introduction to Maddox’s intriguing new breed of demons - the Descendants . I’m really excited about future plot possibilities with the Descendants characters as well as new character Viper and his group. There are new enemies to defeat in the form of evil angels as well as other potential adversaries closer to home. I found this story utterly gripping from start to finish and was kept guessing right to the end about who was after Rainey. This is such a good series that always leaves me wanting more!

EVERYTHING I NEEDED.
This is my most highly anticipated book of this year. The only way I can put it, is that reading this book gave me those same feelings I had from reading Burn. The sheer excitement of the unknown. The knowing and promise of an unpredictable story with giant personalities you can't help but love. But also the knowing that Suzanne could right the alphabet and make it great so no matter what I'd love this book. It beat ever single expectation and then some.
Maddox was everything you think he's going to be, and then some. Overbearing, possessive, obsessive, and oh so dominant. He seeps sin and s3x like a tall glass of water. He's arrogant and unapologetic and it should be frustrating but I loved it. For a man that doesn't explain himself, a man that lies, cheats and deceits. A man that does nothing without a price. He was in fact nothing but kind to Raini. He was as honest as he could be whilst still protecting everything that mattered to him. He was genuine to her and her alone. The damn man is leathal.
Raini, oh my sweet sensual kitten she is. Everyone... and I do mean everyone takes what she shows them at face value. But do not be fooled by this one. She has many a tricks up those sleeves and down right shook me more than once. She's a quiet confidence, a strength from within. A woman who does not need to out power the room when she knows exactly what's she's capable of and just how underestimated she is but those around her. She's too nice for her own damn good but she's also nobody's fool. Also her demon is a whole damn vibe.
These two had me in knots. I feel I holy unprepared for their journey and the revaluations it would reveal. The relationship between Maddox and Raini is strained at first for many reasons but they had this undeniable chemistry and tension that neither could or would deny for long. It was the delicious slow burning anticipation that had me on edge waiting, wondering. I loved the the dynamics of their relationship. His hard, cold overpowering personality to her sweet easy laid back one really created this nice balance between them and it worked. He didn't overpower her, but she wasn't bothered about being in power either so there was never any real fight for dominance in that sense. However there was plenty of other fights that really only served to add fire to their already burning chemistry. It was all kinds of hard hitting in all the best ways. It's definitely not all sweet lovings and romantic declarations but I mean come on... I wasn't expecting that anyway.
It was a rollercoaster. Suzanne really does have a way with words and somehow spins these crazy tails of all kinds of outrageously dysfunctional shenanigans with these larger than life characters, and she does it so well she makes you love it and need more. Maddox and Raini made me laugh till my ribs hurt. They had me ranting and raving like a crazy person at the kindle. I whooped in excitement and I gasped in shock. Frankly I was a nut reading this book and experienced just about every emotion known to man. I'm a dramatic reader, what can I say. But Suzanne really delivered the goods here in every way. Their story is this tangled web of secrets and lies, of temptation and tension and pure undiluted chemistry. It flows seamlessly from one page to the next never stoping for a moment. Never dull or over exaggerated. Everything counted, everything had its place and a reason. It's a crazy world but somehow this author makes it feel real. Makes it believable and I was hooked from the first page needing to know more. Of course the characters play huge parts in this story and there is never a dull moment with the likes of Khloé, Harper, Jolene and the devil himself all together. As well as old we get some fresh blood and man when I tell you I'm so excited for the future right now, I can't even. Suzanne is teasing us.

Not bad, just… not that interesting
The narrator is fine (though her voice for the female protagonist is quite babyish). It’s engaging at first but then it’s just quite hard to care, it’s slow and I didn’t feel particularly invested. The sex is graphic but not hot and the romance just wasn’t engaging.

Squeaky voice grates a bit
This is part of a series so I struggled with the world in this one, not having read the previous books and so not understanding the all important differences between an anchor, a prime and a mate or all of the various powers each being enjoyed. My main issue though was with the main female character Rainey’s voice in this, the narrator made it squeaky and whiney which made her seem quite gormless. It really grated on my nerves I’m afraid. Not really my thing, sorry.
