The apocalypse began on Bring Your Dog to Work Day. One moment, everything was normal. Then the World Core woke up and slaughtered almost everything alive so it could harvest their Chi. After that, it rebuilt everything and put the survivors in a gamelike environment, pitting them against monsters and each other. The rules are different now. Chi power is as important as being able to fight. I'm one of the survivors. With my knowledge of martial arts and my special Chi skill, I'm turning myself into a force to be reckoned with.

My name is Mal, and ever since I was a boy, I've been treated as a malcontent because of my ability to see magic. For everyone else, magic is proof of the Goddess’ love. To me, it is just a colorful spread of enchantments, cantrips, blessings, and hexes. And any spell I can see, I can break. I had always expected to grow up to be a ditch-digger. Instead, I was dubbed a hero. Heroes are sent out in the wasteland, to slay monsters and to challenge the Demon Lord. It’s a suicide mission. But once I was exiled, I found that the outside world was different from what I had thought.

Twenty years ago, his father saved the world. Or so the history books will probably say once someone gets around to writing them. All Mihalis knows is the world he has been raised into. It's not a bad world, as things ago, he has a big and loving family, but there is the ongoing "war" that promises to be on-going for a good many years to come. Raised to the blade by his mother, and taught not only her ways as well as a good many of the ways of her people, but also the ways of his father's other wives, as well as the ways of his magic, Mihalis has had a very thorough education.

Summary
Kristjan's home was attacked. He was supposed to be sent through a portal with his guard to keep him safe until everything settled down, but things didn't go as planned.
He woke up without his memory in a world that is filled with Demons, Djinns, Phoenix, Fire Giants, and many others.
During his time on Exhulm, he's bullied for being a non-magical being, making his life difficult. Around his 18th birthday, things begin to change, though. His magic presents itself, making his life even more problematic. Kristjan realizes that maybe not having magic wasn't so bad after all.

meh
I'm returning this because all the interesting character development parts gets skipped over by telling us what happened then showed us and with that this book could of been split up into 2 maybe 3 books. another thing is the mc is a boring Mary Sue and he REEEEEEEEEEEEEE over slavery another overused trop for bad guys these days a slaver ring it couldn't be anything interesting like bringing back the big bads of old or trafficking nope just mundane slavery.
I've listened to his other book and he does a good job at slice of life but he sucks at progression.
The narrators did a five star job I couldn't of made it through the hole thing if it was just a male or female narrating.

My only gripe is that the MC calls almost every male he meets a D bag or a—hole, but is probably the biggest a—hole in the whole book. He has no chill. Lot of things could have gone smoother had he not been a dick.

Very well done and the VA’s are superb. The story is fascinating and I love all the aspects and roads that are left open to travel down in later books … if we don’t get book 2 soon … we riot

Its good but confusing at times
Its a good, Good vs Evil type book with the MC being a bit overzealous at his job but is too op to stop. ergo he is slowly becoming the bad guy at least I read it that way lol. I'm only confused about one thing. How did the other characters know his name. like his name is Kristjan before he loses his memory, the dragon who found him them serena suddenly know his name without explanation. that is what bugs me the most about this book.

Male Voice Actor Sounds Awful
It feels like the VA has something against every male character he has to voice who isn't immediately on the MC's side. To show this he makes them sound like they are talking around chunks of asphalt, snarling every other word, or snorting like a pig? The last 2 hrs have a king equivalent who is tall, jacked and respectful to the MC sounding like an orc or something with his growly snorted speech? The incubi snorted every other word, like how is that suave and seductive?
Author needs an editor there's just some mistakes that confuse or distract. Also no one wants an in detail discussion of a 14yr old MC spanking the monkey, why did u think that was good? You're super mysterious Mc is coming off as an edgelord written by a middle schooler like a caricature of a character.
