Summary

US Navy submarine commander Peter Vornado is at the top of his game in underwater warfare when a devastating illness takes him out of the service - and almost to the grave. Without duty, honor, or something to fight for, his life is as good as over.

But the CIA needs a man like Vornado....

A terrorist cabal has acquired a scrapped Soviet sub from the Cold War - a technologically advanced failure still able to outrun any torpedo or enemy vessel and strike at will. With a nuclear payload, it will enable the terrorists to fire directly on Israel - and throw the world into chaos. All that remains is to modernize the sub with the latest technology.

Only one man can infiltrate the group, take the helm, and stop a holocaust - a man who has already stared down death, and is ready to do battle once more....

Author needs to stick to writing not narrating.

I can't understand why the author found it necessary to narrate half the story. Stick to writing.

After 90 minutes I decided to return it

I had high hopes and wanted to love this book. However, for me, the narration was subpar. Specifically, the narrator's intonation and timing were off. This resulted in my mind repeatedly being drawn to these facts and away from the story. Overall, I became annoyed and realized that I did not want to listen any longer. I recognize the author's and narrator's efforts and am grateful for Audible's Return Policy.

Much research went into writing this thriler!

This is 2 stories in one.. The 1st story sets up wonderfully for the 2nd story. An incredible level of detail was included which made this fictional story seem very real and exciting

Author should stick to writing books not readi

Although historically I have absolutely loved anything written by this author period listening to the normal narrator and the author read every other chapter is like going from one of those ideal soft spoken narrators to listening to a California surfer reading the same book. overall the story was incredible and the performance was above par. I did just find it kind of unsettling to flop between two different narrators every other chapter period this tend to ruin the continuity of the story in some respects. and the grand summation I would highly recommend this book and others by this author because of his incredible technical descriptions and well thought out storyline!

Excellent character development!

f you love Tom Clancy...well...he's dead. Michael DiMercurio, however, is still alive...and knows exactly how to spin a submarine yarn. This book will hook you early, and the narration shifts that feature the author are a great change of pace. Especially if you have sat around in a Garage in Calhoun, MO with him and had him regale you with tales of The Immortal Redhead, Wife 1.0, and Rose the Hose whilst pounding bourbon and beer. I recommend a good cigar while listening. 10/10 would listen to a book narrated by Minnesota Joe and Mr. DiMercurio, you can actually hear the O-Ganger seething out of the latter. Keep them coming!

Great yarn for listening!

Michael does a great job in telling a detailed submarine story with lots of the real details to go with the fiction. Love the characters, especially the bad guys. Says a Navy Captain who has been there.

good but confusing

I liked the story, but struggled to keep up sometimes. There were parts that I had to listen to a few times because the author was trying to be too creative. I also found it hard to keep up with the navel terminology. It seems like you need to be a sailor in order to understand what was going on. I also found myself saying "bull sh**" a few too many times at the outlandish predicaments the hero's found themselves in. Finally, the author could have shrunk the size of this story tremendously by reeling in his extremely drawn out descriptions of the surroundings. All that said I found the book very engaging, and the characters were well thought out and thoroughly described. I would reccomend this book.
