Summary

Love can save you...if it doesn't destroy you first.

Gwen has spent her life on the road, picking up and moving every few months when her mother has a mental break. They take care of each other. They don't need anyone else. Or so Gwen believes...until her mother announces she's met a man online.

When they arrive at his opulent home, Gwen is plunged into a world that seems too good to be true. Suddenly she's living in a mansion overlooking the beach and eating foods she's only read about in paperback novels. Her mother's new man has a gorgeous daughter and four irresistible sons who apparently don't mind her complete social incompetence. At last, her dream of going to school and being a normal 16-year-old is within her reach.

But the family they've joined has more than its share of secrets. Not all of them want her there, and her inexplicable attraction to each of them only complicates matters further. When strange phenomena begin to occur in their presence, Gwen must emerge from her protective shell and embrace a destiny she's never imagined.

Contains mature themes.

not the best

I liked the FMC in the beginning, she was a young woman dealing with an apparently unstable mother on the run from monsters. when the boys and girl are introduced I could understand her somewhat, suddenly the step daughter of a rich man with hansom brothers and a beautiful sister she was attracted to them all but even at the end she was still acting like a pervert and it got right on my nerves. naivety only goes so far though and she becomes very annoying very fast

For young audience

Just finished whole series and thought I will inform some listeners what they can expect.

FMC is 15/16 yo, socially inept, more grown up than her parent, but in the same time because of her life extremely paranoid, distrustfull and gullible. Because of the age of characters this series is really slow burn reverse harem, where the intimate scenes are glossed over. Harem includes a girl which means there's FxF in this series.

I quite like the idea behind this book- the whole 'hosting gods' concept. What I didn't like was that some characters were added just for the sole sake of adding them for example dwarfs. or elfs which we just know by names and thats all.... Also this preventing end of the world was kind of forgotten as it was just push aside as some simple task and thats all.

*a bit of spoilers*
There are some things that didn't add up.. Like the whole pull to their center, that is sooo strong that in the end not all are pulled to it?? why excluding elfs and dwarf??Won't they feel same hollowness being away from the heart? Was Gwen not mature enough for that?? I wish there was at least some 'maybe' for the future... What about her father? Loki got killed but won't there be any repercussions if they go back home??

A really good listen

I like the storyline of the book and can’t wait to see what happens. I like the depth of the characters. This is the first time listening to a Reverse Harem book set in modern times. I’m normally used to hearing a generic British or American accent. So the male Brooklyn inner monologue voice took a bit of getting used to. But because the characters are so strong, eventually it didn’t matter. It’s a slow burner, with a lot of buildup, tension, mystery and cliffhangers. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is in to this genre.
