About this listen

Through vivid stories of the experiences of their patients (both adults and children), Drs. Hallowell and Ratey show the varied forms ADD takes - from the hyperactive search for high stimulation to the floating inattention of daydreaming - and the transforming impact of precise diagnosis and treatment.

Foundational if a little dated

For anyone with ADHD this book ought to be a part of you're journey of discovery as it was mine and countless others before me. The relatable stories, observations on co-occurance with other issues, and practical tips are all re-assuring and helpful.

This book and Ned with were and are a major driving force behind modern ADHD discussion. While elements of the book are somewhat dated and research has advanced substantially since it's printing it still has much to offer. Don't make this the only book you read (little chance of that anyway if you have ADHD) but I would really recommend giving it a shot.

Very, very informative.

I found it a great listen. A very good introduction to the world of ADD, beginning with varied case studies illustrating the traits, and variety of traits and differences between individuals. Moves on to explain the various effects ADD can produce in different scenarios, and a lot of info on treatment. Understandable and encompassing.

Science, but make it a story

The singular beauty of this audiobook, despite its excellent and revelatory content, is the engaging, warm, storytelling voice of the narrator. I have ADD/ADHD, very recently diagnosed, and worried that I wouldn't be able to focus on this book the way that I wanted to; so many scientific pieces get lumped with narrative voices that are annoyingly accented and high-pitched, or monotone and disengaging. Not so here. Not only will those of the distractable, scattered mind be able to finish it, they will enjoy it and remember the content. Thank you.

Fairly easy to listen to for someone with ADHD

Also seems quite well evidence based. Not too many tables and lists just read out, like some books on the subject.
