Summary

Stop paying the high cost of disorganization.

Late fees on forgotten bills. A home full of clutter and unfinished projects. Eroding respect with your friends, family, and colleagues. Health worries from doctor's appointments you keep meaning to schedule. Nonstop anxiety as you wait for the other shoe to drop.

You deserve better.

Order from Chaos will teach you how your brain works and how to stop getting in your own way. Mixing stories from the trenches of her own experience as a mom and wife with ADHD with wise, well-researched advice from her years as a blogger at the ADHD Homestead, Jaclyn Paul shows you how to design your own system for restoring order.

Past failures don't have to define you. Order from Chaos offers a helping hand to get you on the path to a more peaceful and rewarding life.

The narrator is hard to listen to

I just couldn't take in the story/info; the narrator has a slightly grating american accent which sounds rather robotic to my ears. It's just not engaging, disappointing.

One person's organisation strategy

If you're looking to learn about ADHD this book isn't for you. If you're looking for organisation techniques I'm not sure this is for you either - the author states that she pretty much used and summarises Getting Things Done. This felt more like a walk through of what worked for the author, which is great, and may work for you, but wasn't for me.

Best book to takle mess, lateness and overwhelm

listened to this four times in a month while stuffing things into clothing banks, bins, charity bags, containment baskets...
The style of organising is sensitive to what I can actually achieve. So many organising books are written for organized people! Not this one! Write more Jaclyn :)

Disorganized & boring

I still don’t know what her points were? Being that it is written for an ADHD brain, she should have made it very quick, concise and straight forward. Instead she wrote a lot of personal stories that never really lead to the point of how to become more organized and instead made everything feel disorganized and confusing. I recommend the book Organizing Solutions for People with ADHD.

So hopeful!

I bought this book, hoping to learn a little bit more and grow in my ADHD
... and BOY did it exceeded my expectations. It is practical, motivating and clever. Never boring. I naturally and intuitively heard the authors message from chapter 1 forward, and saw changes and growth right away. Must read for anyone struggling with adult adhd.

Lies I say……

Dude, this book is reading the Stepford Wife’s of ADHD management. Something along these lines “my kitchen, dining room, and living room were being remodeled for 6 weeks. It was so stressful”.

It’s comical at best.

LIFE CHANGING!

Whoa. That's what comes to mind. Whoa.
This book changed my life. I was recently diagnosed with ADHD in my mid 30's and this book brought so much to my soul. I'm not alone. I'm not broken. I can fix this. I can stop feeling like I'm juggling 100 balls and dropping 98 of them constantly. I still have 100 balls but now I know that I don't have to carry all of them at the same time. I can create containers and find their place in the right container so I know right where to go when I need it.
This has made me a better mother, better woman, better educator and a better human. I found self love within this book and I wasn't even looking for it. ❤

Very well written

Some of the content in here I was already aware of but a lot of it was very helpful to understand my ADHD and validate why my brain reacts to certain things in certain ways. It also helps to explain how to counteract your ADHD tendencies rather than just throw up your hands and essentially give up in frustration at trying to go about things like a normal person would and failing multiple times rather than just accepting your dx and managing how your brain reacts to situations differently from a neurotypical would. It helps put a lot of things in perspective and creates new ideas for managing your ADHD as it is rather than trying to fight against it.

LOVED this book!!!!!!

Instead of giving one solution, she helped me think about how to problem solve my own life. The ideas and examples that she's gives are helpful and inspiring, and the way she frames them have helped me to be able to transfer pieces that would work for me, and let go of things that wouldn't. Loved the narrator too!

I Wish There was a .pdf

Good info and many tools I can put into my own practice. It also feels good to not be alone with my broken brain. There were quite a few ‘Take Aways’ and writing exercises that a.pdf would’ve been very helpful with as I drive while listening and note taking was not possible. Some of the tech/apps sounded a little confusing or not necessary as I prefer paper (spiral notebooks). Rewriting everything weekly seems slightly cumbersome but I do believe in handwriting (lists, journaling, ideas etc. ) as I feel that helps the info/tasks really stick.

Helpful and Validating!

This was the first book I read after my ADHD diagnosis and it was INCREDIBLY validating, but not only that, it gave me so much hope that I’m not destined to always feel like a mess. There are so many actionable takeaways packed into this book!

Somewhat over the top but worth reading anyway

I liked the book overall and got some great tips. However, there are several parts of the book that seem over the top to me and kicked me into ADHD overwhelm.

In reality, I don’t ever see me being able to reach the level of rigid organization that the author has claimed to achieve. In fact, I don’t think I would want to live that rigid of a life - especially as someone with ADHD. I need freedom to be me and not forcing myself through sheer willpower to live 24/7 as a neurotypical.

The book is worth reading, though. We are all different and will have different levels of success with the recommendations in the book. I plan to try many of the things I learned. Use what fits and let go of the rest.

very basic info

I was hoping to get information that would be more transformative, but it seemed like more common sense advice. I did get a few takeaways that I'll use.
