Summary

When Jonathan Harker visits Transylvania to help Count Dracula with the purchase of a house in London, he soon discovers some strange and shocking things about his new client. And then some strange things start happening back in England: an apparently unmanned ship is wrecked off the coast of Whitby, a young woman discovers strange puncture marks on her neck and the inmate of a lunatic asylum raves about the 'Master' and his imminent arrival.

First published in 1897, Dracula is an epistolary novel, meaning that the narrative is related through letters, diary entries and newspaper articles. The story is brought to life in this Audible production by a group of actors that you might recognise from TV and film: Himesh Patel (Yesterday), Patricia Allison (Sex Education), Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People), Theo James (Divergent series) and Jason Watkins (The Crown).

You Will Thank Yourselves

I read this story a long time ago and loved it. I have tried a few audio versions of this, some single narration and others acted out. most have not put in the energy of these actors. Each one reading and sounding believable in their parts have properly bought this book to life again.

A true classic - well produced

Seen the films over the years and all the variations produced, but never realised hw much had been left out. This is truly a masterpiece and a must listen.

Classic Gothic Horror, But surprisingly modern

We all know the Dracula story from countless (no pun intended!) film and TV adaptations, but its good to go back to the source, and the familiar characters, tropes and quotes are all there. Although set at the tail end of the 19th Century and at heart a Gothic Horror, it feels surprisingly modern with cutting edge developments of the time such as the use of audio diaries and hypnotism pulling it towards the 20th Century and beyond.

All the performances in this book are fantastic and the story is of course excellent, The final third, dominated by Van Helsing and the chase to catch Dracula drags a bit with some repetition and the end feels a bit of an anti climax, but that's a minor critism of a great story well presented

An excellent telling of this classic story. Shake Hollywood from your hair and indulge yourself.

I thought people just liked it be ause it was old

This team of talented voice actors swept me away into this genuinly thrilling story. The time went by at a gripping pace, and the plot satisfied every curiosity. Even if Van Helsing does like his monologues.

Utterly compelling.

I read the reviews which were what made me want to read the story. I know the story, I’ve seen so many films, but this was in another league.
It was a fantastic story for listening to from start to finish; atmospheric, chilling, so beautifully written. I couldn’t wait to listen every evening. The use of different readers for each character completely brings the story to life and not one voice was out of place as they told the story.
I would recommend this book to everyone.

Amazing !

I have read the story in English and German and have seen a few attempts at making it into a film. But none has been so captivating as this enactment. Well done!

Lovely classic macabre story

A brilliantly spooky story. It’s so well written coming from different characters points of view.
