Summary
The fantastic Shapeshifter series continues with Dax and his friends settling into their new secret hideaway in the Lake District. The whole place has been fortified so that the children of limitless ability won't ever be under threat again. After dodging death once too often for his liking, Dax is looking forward to a quieter time - building a treehouse in the grounds and shifting to a fox or a falcon and exploring the countryside.
But all is not well in the spirit world - strange messages are coming through and Dax, Gideon, Lisa, and Mia must once again join forces. Could the messages be coming from Luke and Catherine, Gideon's dead brother and sister? Perhaps they're even still alive? In which case, they have to rescue.
Luke from Catherine's evil clutches - but is Dax really a match for her?

My favourite series
Ali sparkes is honestly my favourite and has been since I was 12 so I will never not love these. I do love how she manages to connect her other books like tyrone. I would love to see how more of the novels connect too. I hope Ali sparkes makes the audiobook for feather and fang and writes me like 80 more shapeshifter books thank-you

Why the change of narrator?
I loved the initial shapeshifter books, and when purchasing book 4, I didn’t even bother the sample it.
So it was quite a frustrating realisation that Ali Sparkes is now reading her own books.
A good author unfortunately isn’t automatically a pleasant reader and changing it is not great!
I haven’t been able to finish it, I am not enjoying her voice and am thinking of returning it

A good listen
The story is engaging and there weren't any points where I felt like it dragged. Though, I feel like Dax's sickness should have been spread throughout the first half of the story, instead of introduced and resolved right at the start.
Ali Sparks is an alright narrator, certainly easier to listen to than some other book narrators. But in this book, she goes too fast, not leaving enough time between paragraphs and page breaks, making them feel like they're all part of the same sentence in some parts. Though, she thankfully gets better in later books.

Another great addition to the series
Absolutely love Ali’s books! This one is probably the favourite of the shapeshifter series. You get some wholesome Dax & Owen content, some of Mia’s later plot being foreshadowed here and of course Lisa being the brat we all love as usual. Some great use of the spirit world also spices things up. All in all, great character development and fast paced plot. Just be aware of the shift in narrator so you’re not surprised when you purchase, but regardless I thought Ali did a great job with the narration so not a bad change! :)
