Summary
Dax Jones is an ordinary schoolboy ...until something extraordinary happens one day. Whilst frightened for his life, he inexplicably changes into a fox! Before long, both a government agent and an ambitious young journalist are on his tail. The agent tells him that he is one of several children with special powers and he's been offered a place at a secret government school where he can develop, and learn to control, these powers. If Dax accepts, on no account can he tell anybody, especially not the journalist. Dax jumps at the chance of attending the boarding school. His home life is unhappy and he would do anything to escape it. And when he gets to the school, he is amazed to find himself amongst kids with all sorts of talents, from the ability to levitate to the ability to move things using only the mind. Dax immediately feels at home. But first the journalist tracks him down. And then he begins to wonder who exactly is behind the school, and what they want from the pupils there. Suddenly Dax's fox senses are on high alert....

Good tale - shame about the narration style
Glen McCready's posh RP vocal style was perfect for Ali Sparkes's Frozen in Time (which I love and have listened to several times), because it featured 1950s middle class children speaking in that manner, but doesn't seem to fit with The Shapeshifter. For me, it distracts from an otherwise good audiobook with a fine premise and plot.

Fantastic series
My son and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the Shapeshifter series, he enjoyed it so much that he is now listening to them all again as audio books. Wonderfully written with great characterisation and a compelling plot and with moments of very funny humour and genuinely scary bits. Excellent

Ali Sparkes is such a good author
I first listened to her shapeshifter series and absolutely loved it, and moved on to her other books, she has a similar sort of style when it comes to her books, lots of action, mystery and really good. Another series I definitely recommend by her is her night speaker series, this has so much action and a similar style to this, kids with superpowers and all that, definitely recommend it.

Love it!
As an animal lover I absolutely adored this book, I have read and read this book over 20 times and it never gets old! But it was very annoying when in the middle of the chapter it says “end of disc one” and how it changes narrator although a do think Ali sparks is much better at it the the posh manner of the first narrator over all this was such an amazing book and I am so happy they finally made a feather and fang audiobook🥰

The Best Shapeshifter Book I've Read/Heard Yet
It's well written with an interesting setting and characters I remember. The main character LOVES his shapeshifting as much as I imagine I would, and that brings a smile to my face every time it comes up in the story. The "Magical School" setting is a little cliche and familiar, but the story is overal recommended by me for supernatural and transformation adventure fans. Already purchased second entry.
